  i paid, downloaded as instructed, file wont open. when i emailed for help, i received one 'chain-lie' response, then nothing. there goes $100.

• Feature-rich but full of defects

  Pros

  MagicScore Maestro 6 has a huge number of features for composing and annotating virtually any type of music.

  Cons

  This is the buggiest commercial software I have used in the past 27 years. It is just riddled with silly defects that make it much more difficult to correctly enter musical notations than it should be.

  Summary

  I do not recommend this product. I have written several songs of moderate complexity using the software. It can take a great deal of time to correct the errors the software makes (like deleting notes from a chord when adding a dot to make a quarter note a dotted quarter note). It is very touchy, which makes it hard to correctly create notations like ties. Insertions often do not behave as expected. Some things I have tried to write have proved impossible to enter correctly. Some portions of the playback of a score do not work correctly. Etc., etc., etc. I have encountered numerous coding error messages when taking certain actions, which sometimes froze the software in an infinite loop. Despite the amazing richness of the feature set, the incredible number of bugs in the software makes it very frustrating to use. I would not purchase this product again.

  Pros

  Very large feature set. Very good range of input choices (pick-and-place, midi interface, computer keyboard "piano", on-screen playable piano, plus drum and guitar options).

  Cons

  Can be hard to find the tool you're looking for in large button sets. Modal UI means that if you're in the wrong mode buttons may not do what you want.

  Summary

  I've tried several. Barring the expensive ones like Encore and Finale ($600 anyone?), this one is my choice.

I use this program both for a writing of new products, and for scoring already written earlier. Fine scores on which it is convenient to sing and play turn out. Many-voiced scores both for instrumentalists, and for vocalists are remarkably sounded. The fine help for pupils musical and comprehensive schools, students of musical schools and institutes.

  Looks nice as if it is for real, all the appearance of a professional set up; unfortunately the thing chokes every time It gets a real song to produce in real time, many supposed efforts have been made to correct this lockup problem, even a promise of a no.6.0 release, another load of bull;<p>there is no legitimate business here aside of try before you buy and no guarantees you will ever have it work for you; a waste of money unless you have single note diddies to poke at it.<p>not impressed with the supposed support either; they can keep the money they stole with this dupe.<p>I would suggest avoid it , it will only bring you grief. Total sucker bet on this one!

  Pros

  Authors VERY responsive as well! Everything works well, playback uses ALL notations (unlike others), good UI (unlike others). Frequent updates.

  Cons

  Crashes sometimes... For the ease of use and other qualities, I can live with it.
