MacPurge for Mac improves the performance of your machine by manually clearing the disk and memory caches, replicating the effects of a full-system reboot. It's extremely basic, with no options to configure and just one function: performance optimization.

The main screen of MacPurge for Mac consists of two tabs laid out in an identical way: one is for Mac OS 10.7 and 10.8, while the other is for 10.9. This separation is needed because of the many hood improvements Apple introduced in Mac OS X Mavericks. Under each of the two tabs you'll find a "Purge" button that will clear the caches on your machine, an operation that takes only a few seconds and requires an administrator password every time it's performed. After using this app, we can't say we noticed a striking performance boost, though the next few apps did launch more quickly.

If you're a power user constantly switching between apps, a tool like MacPurge for Mac might come in handy for clearing the temporary files left behind by closed apps. While the utility is snappy and well optimized, the lack of additional options and customizations might disappoint you.

Developer’s Description

Offers a "cold disk buffer cache" which is similar to the state of the OS after a reboot.
The system may become bogged down at times or just feel slower than normal after running multiple apps at a time. MacPurge tries to help out with just a click of a button. It forces disk and memory caches to be emptied, offering a "cold disk buffer cache", which is similar to the state of the operating system after a reboot by running the "purge" command.
