Recover your deleted files in a seamless Finder-Like interface.
Mac Data Recovery Guru works by employing content-based file scanning. This is a different approach to traditional forms of data recovery which attempt to repair the device in question, which when they go wrong will write over the data you were trying to retrieve in the first place. Our method opens the device in read-only mode, and will search through the entire device for files, or pieces of files, that are present. It reassembles the data it finds into regular files on the fly.
I looked at a lot of different apps before I bought Mac Data Recovery Guru. All have a lite version, like this one, that is essentially a demo to show what, if any, lost files can be recovered. But this is the only one that displayed renderings of the files, including images, so you can see what's recoverable.
If you are going to spend money to get a particular file or files back. You want to know before you spend it, that it will be able to recover the files. So Mac Data Recovery Guru is the only one that really shows you what you're getting before you pay for it.
I was scanning a hard disk that seems very sick, some other apps weren't able to read it without throwing up errors. But Mac Data Recover Guru managed to scan the whole disk, even though it's obviously on its last legs.
Cons
You won't be able to retrieve your files unless you buy the full version, but that's true of all data recovery apps out there. So it's best to think of this as a demo version rather than a full app.
Summary
There are lots of data recovery apps out there, all have a cut down demo version, and a more expensive full version (that actually recovers the files). This is the only one I found that shows you the files, text and images, so you can be sure it will save the particular files you need.
