Linkman Lite from Outertech is a free tool for collecting, centralizing, and managing bookmarks from 10 different browsers. It integrates with Firefox and Internet Explorer as well as the interesting Maxthon. But it's capable of much more, such as the ability to organize and sort bookmarks by keywords, comments, folders, paths, and other filters; synchronize bookmarks and links between two programs or two separate computers; automatically check and update links and delete duplicates; and import and export saved files. You can also color-code bookmarks, protect your bookmark files with a password, set hot keys, save all the links on a page, and customize the templates, interface, grids, and tools.

Linkman Lite's interface has a familiar left-hand tree view for bookmarks and a main window to display specific selections, such as a folder of links or the results of a search. A compact tabbed view for comments, descriptions, and user-defined entries as well as fields for entering ratings, changing the name or path, and entering keywords runs under the toolbar, which is packed with colorful icons controlling all the program's primary functions, including previously mentioned features as well as a Links Collector, URL validation tool, and other frequently accessed items. We clicked Import/Firefox 3 Bookmarks, and Linkman Lite navigated directly to the right folder--a good start, considering it would have taken a while to find it manually. But it loaded our most recent bookmarks in the tree view. Clicking any folder or range of bookmarks showed them in the main view. Clicking any bookmark opened the page in the selected browser, in this case, Firefox 3.6.11. Linkman Lite replaces your browser's native URL handling and promises faster browsing, and pages did seem to load a little quicker. The duplicate finder and link updater did a fine job with our collection of literally thousands of links, some years out of date. There's a recommended online tutorial and a good Help file for sorting out this flexible program's many options and features.

If you've ever switched browsers, upgraded your OS, or migrated to a new PC, you can appreciate what a pain it can be to get your old bookmarks back and how difficult life is without them. Linkman Lite makes it easy. It's by far best solution we've tried for keeping your bookmarks safe and up to date.

Slows the PC to a crawl

I don't see any pros for this software.
Cons
Using Firefox v 28 and the current version of Linkman Lite (8.92), it slowed my system down to a crawl,making it unusable. It appears to be very complicated to use and watching the video makes it look much easier to just use the Firefox bookmark system. This appears to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, or at least one that I don't seem to have.
Summary
The developer blamed the slowness on my AV software, but I had given it plenty of time to analyze the program and disk activity stopped pretty quickly since I have a solid state drive. I don't believe it was Avast AV slowing down the PC as it was scanning the new software because when it does that, it pops up a window stating that it is scanning new software and that it might take 15 seconds or so to finish. It never even did that with Linkman. I tried the lite version since I was considering purchasing the pro version based on the great write-up on their web site and the great reviews there.

Deleted at least 80% of my Internet Explorer Favorites and downloaded a virus. The virus file is lkmn840[1].exe in a temporary internet file. Virus is PAK_Generic.001. It looks like both the both the Linkman Lite and Linkman Pro downloads have been hacked.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jul 16, 2012<p/>Trend Micro says PAK_Generic.001 is a virus, but Outertech says it is just a compression tool. Outertech told me about a backup file favorites.lmd and I was able to restore my listings. However my listings should have never disappeared in the first place.

Zero, Nadda, Zip, Bupkiss, Zilch, nothing worth while here.
Cons
Confusing, hard to use, crappy interface and I would have to pay for the one feature that I downloaded it for. Link validation. If the download wasn't worth it, why would I pay for this?

Did not work. Slowed Firefox 7 to a crawl. Caused Firefox 7 to freeze up. Required Task Manager to terminate (kill) Linkman Lite 8.30.
Summary
Slowed my Firefox 7 to a crawl and even caused it to freeze up. I had to use Task Manager to terminate (kill) Linkman Lite 8.30. I removed Linkman Lite 8.30 and Firefox functioned normally, again! My System: __CPU: 6-core AMD 1090T, __RAM: 8GB of 1866, __Vid: 1 GB HIS ATI 5870 video card, __OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

This is the only program I've found that can do a good job of organizing links on my own computer. I can use any browser and keep all my links on my computer and use them on multiple computers. It is very stable on Win 7, Has lots of options.
Cons
It is a little intimidating at first. It has a lot of options which gives it a steeper than normal learning curve. I almost didn't take the time to learn it, but I'm glad I did because it does an excellent job.
Summary
At first it was a bit confusing to use. I was looking for a simple replacement for the browser based bookmarks and favorites, one that I could use with all my browsers and keep all my bookmarks on my computer, not in the frigin cloud. It has so many options, and the simple tree view that I am used to was difficult to find. I did find it though. I had to read the manual to figure out how to use the thing, but I'm glad I took the time to do it, because unlike some of its competitors, it is very stable, (I'm using Windows 7), and once you figure out how to use it, the many options it has are actually quite useful. The one drawback in the free version is the fact that you cannot sync your Chrome bookmarks. You can import them from a file, but they loose their folder structures, (all the links are imported in one long list, instead of inside their folders). There is a way around this though. What I did was import all my bookmarks and favorites from all my different browsers into IE Explorer. Now my IE Explorer had a copy of all my bookmarks from all my different browsers. I then made only one import of my IE Favorites into Linkman Lite. I then organized all my bookmarks in Linkman the way I wanted them. I've been using it for about 2 weeks now, and it is fast, stable, and very useful.

I've found Linkman a couple of months ago, and quickly has become my favorite bookmark manager. It has a very attractive and functional interface, although it's not recommended for novice users. It's the perfect solution for people who work with different browsers. We can consolidate all bookmarks in one place, specifically designed for handling them. I prefer standalone (local program) over online bookmark managing. It has many advantages like speed, offline access and security. With Linkman Lite I can see my bookmarks in the Tree View pane, and at the same time perform a query in the right pane, and interact between them (drag & drop). Capturing URLs from different browsers is really easy and straight forward. Linkman integrates with IE and Firefox giving us an even better way of doing things. You can also load two databases at the same time and work with them copying or moving bookmarks between them, and even synchronize both databases. Linkman Lite has Keywords, but you have to manage them individually (for each URL). The paid version has much better support for keywords. With the paid version you can also (from their site): * Synchronization support to share links between multiple computers * Keyword List window * Add Keywords to selected items function * Ability to check URLs for dead links, intelligent (only major) content changes, and page movements * Add all URLs on this webpage function * Replace feature * Retrieve user defined URL meta tags * Editable Export Templates (XML, TSV...) with UTF8 support * Query results can be exported using Templates * Optional installation on USB sticks for mobile usage * Support via Email (linkmanpro@outertech.com) Overall, Linkman IMHO is the best available standalone bookmark manager in the market. And if you can live without the extra features offered in the paid version, Linkman Lite is Free.
