A video media playback application for optical disc and file-based content, Leawo Blu-ray Player provides a decent playback experience and is now compatible with the Windows 8 touch interface. Sadly, it lacks several important features.

Pros

Sleek interface: Heavily inspired by Windows Media Player, Leawo Blu-ray Player proves to be one of the quickest and nicest to navigate players we've tested. The intuitive settings are just one click away, and we particularly appreciated the audio output activation option through HDMI that made the connection of our laptop to an external TV much easier than with most similar applications.

Fast, region-free Blu-ray playback: Blu-ray reading took no more than 20 seconds, faster than most home theater players.

Good file support: The comprehensive file repertoire includes all mainstream formats. Keep in mind, though, that the resolution is limited to 1080p.

Cons

File management: Browsing files is cumbersome, creating playlists is difficult, and digital file organization is practically nowhere to be seen.

Lack of standard disc playback features: 3D Blu-ray playback, BD-Live support, and auto-resume are now all basic features supported by most players; this app's lack of these features is inexplicable. Also, audio CD playback should have been a default feature.

Menu languages: Although localizing the interface should be relatively easy for this kind of app, few languages are supported.

Bottom Line

Leawo Blu-ray Player has deep optical disc roots, exhibits strong performance, and sports a satisfactory interface. If the inexplicable lack of key Blu-ray features does not bother you, the annual subscription cost of $39.95 probably will. Still, you may want to give the trial edition a go, since Blu-ray playback is the only function disabled after the 30-day trial period.

Pros
Nice interface. Plays all regions and region-free discs. Light-weight and consume little resources. It works on Mac and Windows.
Cons
Price changes based on where people come from. Updating it is impossible.
Summary
I thought the program was nice until I tried to update it (and was unable to) but above all found out the software producer is charging clients based on their country: the player is free for english, danish and japanese-speaking customers whereas for spanish, french, italian and portuguese-speaking ones it costs over $40 per year. Program uninstalled, and I'll never use it again as I refuse to accept that kind of policy.

Software doesn't work. I have sent screen shots and detailed explanations. The software keeps asking for my registration code over and over again. They told I brought the wrong software (lie) and would send me a link for the upgrade. They never did. I'm now asking for my money back and all I get is emails to summit a question. It doesn't work what else do you want to know.

2 attempts to play 2 different blu ray discs. First one wouldn't read the disc (the disc cannot be played etc) Tonight on the second attempt for my chosen movie it played for about 5 minutes then shut down saying that the disc was a copy/bootleg (it wasn't) and I needed to purchase a valid disc. So i'm giving this 1 star for failing twice out of 2 times.

Supposed to play Blu-ray discs and has in the past with earlier versions of the software. Will play DVD's with absolute clarity and excellent sound.
Cons
In the current version, 1.9.1.4, which is the free version of player, will not play any Blu-ray discs. When attempted, will show only a green heavily pixilated picture. IMHO, this is a sorry excuse for software that is supposed to play discs.
Summary
Don't waste your time and HDD space to install this software. It isn't worth thee multiple headaches it causes.
You are only leasing the software not purchasing it.

Has issues sending multichannel audio to different devices. Haven't tried multichannel HDMI as I don't have a receiver. Internal audio card and external MOTU interface don't respond to multiple channels, just stereo. There is probably a way around this using some sort of routing software, but I haven't sorted that out yet.
Summary
Been trying different software. WinDVD Pro11 had major start issues and even worse playback. PowerDVD didn't work with any audio output other than the HDMI, and any "acceleration" meant stuttery horrid playback (with my AMD 290 4gb video card). So far in my search, this is the first piece of software to play multiple blu-rays without any issues. If you want 3D or BD-Live, it's not in the player yet, but they do update, so it could be on the way. So if you don't need that, or analog multichannel audio, it's a great free option.

This thing is super slow, it literally takes 4 or 5 hours to rip a movie. The menus are confusing and there is no way to tell which version of the movie you are getting, you may get the one with subtitles then you have to try another one (another 4-5 hours).

Support Windows 8.1 perfectly. (Some software does not support the 8.1 version) 7. High quality video image and sound. 8. Playlist editable. 9. Customizable skins.

1. While playing some BD discs, the program is not going as smooth as video files. 2. A little bit big in size.

Generally speaking, if you are a video fan and watch videos on computer a lot, you will definitely keep this software although it still needs enhancement. I am looking forward the 4K Blu-ray.
