File search is one of Windows' perennial weak points, but this handy utility offers a quick way to open any application or file. Launch Pivot indexes all files and file types on your computer and displays search results as you type. To launch a file, just select it from the results and press Enter. Additional features include the ability to change indexing intervals and the number of displayed results, and to specify a hot key for activating the program. Best of all, Launch Pivot works much faster than the Windows file-search tool (at least, assuming you have Windows Indexing turned off). The $12.95 price isn't unreasonable, but check out the freeware competition before buying.
