LanTalk NET messenger provides internal instant messaging for Intranet networks, LAN, WAN and VPN. There is no setup required, just installation of the program and the system is fully distributed. The application automatically maintains a live contact list, and uses a variety of fonts, colors and styles to enhance the visual appeal of text messaging. LanTalk LAN messenger uses TCP/IP and UDP protocols to allow PC's to communicate directly with each other without the administrative burden of a server.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />My clients wanted an internal IM system to use for inter-office communication. Since they had no server and were just operating peer-to-peer, I thought I would have to get them AIM or some such stuff. Well, I found LanTalk NET and it solved all of the problems including some I hadn't thought of. 1) No registration, it picked up the computer's user name and voila! Done. 2) Works soly over TCP/IP . 3) Install and walk away. 4) Interface that is clean and easy to use. 5) Ability to set the software so it only quits from the taskbar (or not if you wish). Keeps clumsy users from accidently cutting it off. So they are on the trial right now, but I am sure we will be purchasing this very affordable software for the whole office.
