  Pros

  Perhaps it would have worked if I spent more time troubleshooting, but with the multitude of available video players it's easier to just uninstall and install another video player.

  Cons

  On my Windows 8.1, it could neither play an mp4 file by right clicking the file and "open with...", nor by opening the program separately and clicking your way through your folders to find the mp4, because it just wouldn't show up in the folder.

  Pros

  Replaces the need for paid subscription based services like Netflix and Hulu. Lots of tutorials on the internet explain how to utilize addons like Exodus

  Cons

  If you're lazy you won't like it. If following a simple tutorial is too complicated for you, stick to paying for cable or Netflix.

  Summary

  My Mom, who doesn't know how to add an attachment to an email, uses Kodi everyday to watch movies and TV. It saves her almost $100 a month. I use Kodi, ES file share, and Localcast on my phone to cast movies to my smart TV. Im no tech genius. I never took a single computer class in high school. I never owned a computer until I was 25. I can however, follow simple step by step instruction.

  Ignore most of these comments on cnet these people have no clue what they are talking about ive been using kodi for 3-4 years now best program to ever come into my life watch some simple youtube videos about kodi and some of the best addons for kodi and you will be flowing with joy once you get it set up.

  There are no pros about this software.

  Cons

  Fails to play media files. On choosing file to play, options are Kodi, MX Player and Video Player. MX Player works, others don't. Thus, Kodi is as duff as the built-in Android option and adds no value.

  Where does one begin? Extremely user friendly to set up ! Any of its files genesis phoenix etc. any movie type any Chandra new or old will have dad links freezing stopping camera only my handheld and just crap to the point where you get so frustrated you want to break the system!

  In ending save your money! You will have nothing but I was a frustration anger and being upset instead of relaxing and watching a movie which is what you should be doing

  Has a huge number of powerful features, plugins, and can do all kinds of things

  Far, far, too complicated. Like many people I was a WMC user forced to find an alternative after upgrading to W10 - this is not it. I always loved WMC but I only now appreciate how cleverly and seamlessly it worked. Kobi is a nightmare in comparison.

  Summary

  I invested hours trying to learn this, when all I want to do is watch tv, and even then my results weren't satisfactory. When you download free software I guess you get what you pay for - I just wish someone would work out how to get WMC running on Windows 10!

  Very comprehensive, configurable and versatile

  Cons

  Very-complicated. Almost impossible to use for average non-techie person. I had a hard time adding tuner component for a Silicodust tuner. UI is too fragmented and the add-ons are mostly hit or miss. Uses a lot of resources, so a lesser system will be very sluggish.

  Summary

  I use WMC on all my systems, but I upgraded one to Win 10 which does not have WMC, that's why I needed an alternative. Kodi is Definitely not an alternative to WMC- not in the true sense of the word. If you're used to windows media center, you'll be very very disappointed.

  Wouldn't install properly? Upon completion of install got error message derectx9 did not install properly. lol cant install derectx9 on windows 8.1 Went to Microsoft to download and install it but wouldn't install. Not compatible with windows 8.1. Anyways tried all compatibility setting and nothing works. I got this from there website which clearly states compatible with 8.1.

  It's can't even browse or add my video folder in my secondary harddisk which is full of MKV files! What else to talk about? Uninstalled!
