• Awesome tool!... if you can get it to work

  Pros

  Coupled with Voice of Japan this software can read Japanese too you, show you different options on Kanji readings, and give you the English translation for the kanji all at the same time. It also has numerous other functions which I don't use.

  Customer Support, not compatible with Vista (or at least I haven't gotten it to work)

  Summary

  I recently upgraded to Vista and am heart broken as I can not figure out how to use Kanji Quick and Voice of Japan on the new computer. This program has been a life send for me reading Japanese email. I grew up in Japan speak Japanese fluently, however my reading skills leave a bit to be desired. This program bridged that gap for me wonderfully and therefor no matter how crappy the customer support is and the fact that I can't find a way to make it work in Vista, I have given it 4 stars.

  registration procedure to makew permanent is a horror show to be avoided at all costs. Support from kanji,de is next to worthless. They keep sending sub-links to be downloaded and to be unzip-ped to register. When unzipped, no dat bank can be found in the registration link. Suppoirt from kanji.de is virtually worthless and they refuse to refund money in violation of PayPal agreement for programs that cannot be installed. The reviewer above who cannot figure out how to register is on solid ground. Avoid this program aggravation like the plague.

  Contemplated The Kanji Dictionary hardback as I needed the right/left compounding referencing tool but found after testing KanjiQuick that this works even better for my everyday computer based work. Saves time and effort...like moving laundry chores from the river bank to a washing machine.

• Overwrites system dlls

  The installation installs system dlls without checking if they are already installed or asking to overwrite existing versions. For example it overwrites the Jet Engine dll with a German version so now all my database errors are in German. Also failed to detect that I had the Microsoft IME installed.

  KanjiQuick is nothing less than revolutionary for the serious student of written Japanese. The speed with which one may look-up not only individual kanji but compounds as well drastically reduces the frustration and time spent when first tackling Japanese documents.
