KallOut's beta shows great potential for being the kind of unobtrusive, time-saving application we love. With two quick clicks, it turns text selections from a variety of Microsoft Office applications into search terms for a wide range of Web sites. In this way, selecting an unfamiliar term can populate a background search from Wikipedia or The New York Times, or find book titles or videos. It could help you quickly map a location or dig up public photos--all without opening a browser. Instead, KallOut delivers Web content to your application in a, well, call-out.

This goes for IE and Firefox browsers as well, where clicking on KallOut can launch a lookup within your tab and save you having to open up a new one. KallOut is so far off to a good start, but we'll keep a close eye on what comes next.

What’s new in version 1.0.18

KallOut has been re-written from the growned up to support the Internet Explorer 8 Open Search Accelerator definition. KallOut is now a stand-alone firefox add-on that supports Mac, PC and Linux.

Clean minimal windows and capable of full size, and convenient. The speed is a knockout

When I first downloaded and started using kallOut,<p>I was disturbed that while I was trying to download AVG 8.0, I found I had 2 worms, attached to KallOut and the uninstall program. I don't think it will happen now.

Our goal is to make searching more convenient by allowing people to start their search inside any office document, email, presentation, pdf or WEB PAGE. <p> <p>Any word or phrase can immediately be enhanced by selecting text so instead of having to constantly select and copy text to paste it in a browser, KallOut let's you search in context. <p> <p>Once you have an open KallOut, you can click the pop-out button in the top right corner of the window to open the equivalent content in a full browser (we automatically detect your default browser). <p> <p>Thanks for review. I read about Kallout on CNET. I'm shocked at how often I've been using the Kallout application since I installed it over the weekend. Very stable & intuitive.<p>My favorite undiscovered feature of Kallout is *BestGuess*, which is spooky smart when it works. Try highliting "Klum" or "American Idol" and you'll see what I mean.<p>I really love this.
