What's that? We have to stop playing with Kaleider and actually write a review of it? We're not sure that we can. This mesmerizing program does so many cool things that we're having trouble prying ourselves away from it.

Despite our love for this program, we cannot tell a lie: its interface is a mess. There are buttons and menus and things across the top and bottom and down the right side. We can't even say that we understand most of what the program does. But it's fun and it's beautiful, and for that, we love it. Kaleider allows users to apply a very wide range of effects to images, making them look as though they're being viewed through a kaleidoscope. Some results look like psychedelic art from the 1970s, others like Victorian wallpaper. The number of effects and possible ways that they can be combined is staggering, with funnel, mirror, kaleidoscope, and 3D options. Users can grab a point on an image and drag it, shifting the effects endlessly. Although users can create and save new images with the program, we also enjoyed its automatic effects feature, which animates an image according to user-defined parameters and can optionally play music. We could spend hours staring at this thing and watching the shapes change. Users who are actually interested in learning the ins and outs of the program will enjoy the well-written built-in Help file, but all users will enjoy playing around with the program and experimenting with its features.

Kaleider has a 22-day trial period. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.

I haven't found anything worthy of mention.
Cons
Horrible user interface - makes no sense whatsoever. Cannot see the taskbar while the program is running - that's no good. No matter what I click nothing happens other than boring info boxes popping up. There is too much to read and I can't be bothered reading.
Summary
I've been using computers and testing software since the late 80s yet I couldn't get anything done with this. It doesn't look like this is going anywhere? If this program is meant to do some kind of magic it certainly didn't happen here.
I loved it so much I sent the guy money!

Pros
If there is another way to apply kaleidoscope effects that this program doesn't cover, I can't think of it. It creates stunning visual images and can keep one happily occupied for hours.

Sorry, I've got nothing bad to say about it.
Summary
The guy who wrote the program has always been there for me when I needed a free upgrade or to install it on a new computer.

Pros
Makes amazingly complicated patterns, so easy to save quickly, just press Q and it's done. Once you get around all the buttons and menus you soon learn the shortcuts. Would be such a boon to anybody designing fabrics or wallpapers.
Cons
A bit overwhelming to start with but do persevere, it pays off in the end.
Summary
Have just gone ahead and bought the software after the trial ran out. Great to play around with when you have a few spare minutes you want to fill in. Anyone who has used stuff like Apophysis or Chaoscope will love this.

I find the production of still images fairly simple, however the recording and saving of video confusing. the layout of the interface and placement of buttons creates unnecessary problems.

Pros
Neat effects possible with little effort. I'm using it to create wallpaper and page backgrounds from photos and art work. Very intuitive once you figure out the menu... and it's free!
Cons
The menus at the right of the main window could and should be larger. It might be advantageous to start each new file in a new window so one could work back and forth or work on more than one image at a time.
Summary
As stated previously, there is a learning curve. The small menu that pops up and contains "Help" isn't very concise. Like the working icons, this "Help" is small and on a black background which makes it hard to read. Considering this is a free program, I'm nitpicking but... trying to be constructive. I would like an actual, circular template that would give me the versatility of creating round (as in most kaleidoscopes) renders along with the full frame render. All in all, it's a great little program and I have many uses for it. Thanks to the team that created it!!!

This is the ultimate image enhancement engine that allows you to realize imagination. It seems endless with ability to distort,morph,warp,stretch,multiply,create complex patterns and graphic imagery. A Kaliedoscopic production for your chosen pics!
Cons
The only negative thing that I found, is that you are limited to 3 product key replacements, which allows you to use it. Once those keys are used, you must repurchase the program entirely. It would be nice if you could update the license when u need.
Summary
It is meant for those that enjoy kaliedoscopic patterns, pushed to the infinite! A best for graphic art display and production. Offers screen capture and video creation. A treasured investment and favorite toy.

The user interface is very easy to use. The various options allow the user to develop very creative and artistic images from standard photographs. I would recommend this product to anyone would like to create drug induced art or just crazy images.
Cons
I have been using this product for several years and have not had any problems. Product support is great whenever you have questions.

I chose a colorful image, browsed controls and placed it on auto and tripped out. I haven't ever used a program as this and doubt that any comparative product doesn't exist. I have chose to purchase this one! Totally amuzing.Puts your graphics card to good use.

Kaleider manipulates images (and videos) to emulate various Kaleidoscope, Mirroring, 3D Mirroring and Funneling effects. It is a capable graphics tool for people who are interested in symmetry, tiling, tessellation and mosaic patterns, with controls for manipulating images and tiles. Effects can be shifted interactively with the mouse, essentially re-rendering the same effect based on different relative positions within the source image, allowing you to experiment with the results and decide when a picture suits your taste. Multiple patterns can be combined to create composite Pattern Combo images. High resolution images can be displayed and saved with flexible options. Aside from any usefulness though, Kaleider is really just entertaining and fascinating to watch while in Automatic Effects mode, with an endless variety of randomly selected effects wandering across the screen according to randomly selected patterns. The Rooms feature exhibits Kaleider patterns in 3D perspectives, optionally with automated Roaming motion. In Mask/Mandala mode rendered patterns are merged with a background color or image, based on a shape or stencil. Multiple Patterns can be combined to create Pattern Combos. This visual experience can be accompanied by music from the built-in Audio Player. Kaleider display sequences can be captured to Video, and actions can be Scripted to create choreographed performances of dynamic art.
