• Perfect Book Reader for Netbooks

  Pros

  Full-screens 2-pages of a book on a netbook screen for natural reading--I like reading on my netbook much better than a Kindle, Ipad or other device you have to hold up as the netbook screen stays up on its own. Saves your place, lists books in dir.

  No tutorial, but who needs it?

  Free classic books (expired copyright so they're public domain) in text format are available from numerous sites, but especially Gutenberg.org. JMRader does a perfect natural layout for netbooks as well as regular pc screen. It automatically saves your place, or lets you add bookmarks for different books so you can easily go back to where you were rading. It keeps a list of your books for quick access. Catch up on all the greatest books of all time, and it won't cost you a dime.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Mar 18, 2010<p/>Thought of another con: it defaults to lines on the page when installed--took a moment to find the options and remove the lines.

  Pros

  It seems like it would be nice, if I could get it to work and read the .rar book I downloaded this specifically to read. I liked the idea that you supposedly could use this to read compressed files without having to decompress them.

  I have emailed the software company three times. Only got one response and it did not address my issue.

  Summary

  I downloaded the JMReader in order to try and read a book that I got in .rar format but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use the reader. I looked in the help section (and also online to see if there were instructions somewhere, but there weren't) but there are no usage instructions. Mostly just descriptions of what this reader can do...not HOW to do it. I click on the saved document/book and select JMReader to "open with". The reader pops up with the book in the righthand column and also info about the book across the bottom below the blank lined "paper". I double-click on the title and it disappears into the folder picture above it. I double click on the folder and the title comes back, but still nothing happens on the "page". If I could get it to work, I think I would like it. I like how you can choose to make the reader look like paper in a book and adjust fonts, etc. The creators of this software seem more interested in bragging in broken english about how great their product is rather than helping people actually use it.
