• helpful - but version 2.6 is out ... cnet is 2.3

  Pros

  -has fixed problems in past and simplified managing java. -can get it as a portable (i use it via liberkey) -nice to remove old versions, etc.

  Cons

  -not always the solution. i currently have java 7 something and 8 something is available and will not download (error, error, error ... uninstalled java, uninstalled with uninstall tool, ran microsoft fixit, downloaded offline installer, etc). javara does fix this but installs the 64 bit instead of 32 bit (i only want the 32 bit).

  Pros

  Seemed to work, and installed an old version of Java that ran.

  When I updated the older version as requested by JRE, it failed. Back to square 1

  Pros

  The GUI is now pretty.

  Cons

  The older versions could do so much more. You can't even remove the startup entry "JAVA Update Helper without using a third party app. In essence, the programmers removed 7 or 8 things you could do and made the program safe for dummies. It is basically useless now. I loved the old version, which didn't have a nifty GUI, but was WAY more functional.

  Summary

  Download version 1.16. And stay away from this new version (2.1). It is bloatware, more or less.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Feb 21, 2013<p/>After further review, you CAN remove the Startup Entry. The objects that are missing are "Remove Previous Versions" and under additional tasks- Remove JAVA IE BHO, Remove Sun Download Manager, Remove JAVA Console Extension,and it no longer creates a log file (and the ability to delete.) There are a few more JAVA RA specific tasks. In retrospect, maybe it's not as bad as I thought. Just trying to be honest here. Wish they would have kept the other options, though.
