Editors’ Review
This easy to use pair of command line-based archiving tools takes a few moments to learn, but it's worth the trouble for command window fans. IZArc Command Line Add-on is actually a pair of executable files. Izarcc.exe compresses, while Izarce.exe decompresses archives. Both are easily invoked from batch files and include many common options.
Both of these freeware executables offer all the options of old-style command line archiving tools. The publisher includes a single page manual that lists all options, and examples for most needs. Even an inexperienced user could pick up these tools in minutes. Testers found file compression comparable with Windows-based applications. The archive tool includes easily set options to use ZIP, AES 128bit, or AES 256bit encryption. Five different compression levels are also available. The decompresser handles anything the compressor creates, plus some archives created with other tools.
All of the functions for both tools are set with ASCII character options. You enter the functions through the command line, or invoked through a batch file. Some exit codes are available, but this application doesn't offer extensive error handling. Users in the need of command line archive tools should give this simple, but effective, freeware set a test.
