If you're reading this review, you probably already know you need a program like Intelliscore Polyphonic Wav to Midi Converter (PWMC). But do you need this one? It's tough to say. In theory, PWMC takes sound from almost any source and converts it to the MIDI format.

It can accept music directly from a MIDI instrument, a CD, a cassette, an MP3 or WAV file, or even from a microphone. In automatic mode, it processes music with just a little help (you beat the tempo). Unfortunately, this feature didn't produce good results in our tests, even with simple piano pieces. Moreover, the trial version only converts the first 15 seconds of any piece, making it hard to judge the output quality.

It's obvious Intelliscore Polyphonic Wav to Midi Converter might come in handy for amateur musicians, karaoke fiends, and Web designers--but that's assuming it works as promised, and we're not sure it does.

IntelliScore Polyphonic helps you transcribe music. It listens to your single instrument CD audio, WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC, and AIFF and helps create MIDI (.mid) files containing the notes played, chord names, and key. Then you can take those MIDI files and view the notation and change individual notes. You can also compose MIDI music in real-time by singing or playing any instrument.
