This is a handy utility if you're searching for that proverbial needle in a voluminous haystack of image files. Instant ThumbView's doesn't have many tricks, but it performs them admirably. The program acts as a companion to Windows Explorer. You view files through the main program window, which resembles a pop-up. When you mouse over an image file from a list in Explorer, the image appears in the viewer as a small-format image. We had no problem downloading or installing Instant ThumbView. Once it's installed, it asks you to configure certain settings, such as thumbnail size or quick-key options. If you have either the Shift or the Ctrl key pressed, however, images don't seem to appear in the program window. We would like an option to view the images at their true size, a handy extra feature if you're looking for more information than just the image's subject. Overall, though, Instant ThumbView is a decent device for sorting through image files.

Developer’s Description

Display image thumbnails in a pop-up window.
Instant ThumbView is a tiny image viewer that displays image thumbnails in a tooltip window when mouse pointer is hovered over an image file in Windows Explorer. It supports a lot of popular image file formats, including BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, EMF, TIFF and is very handy for quick image viewing. To bring it up, open any folder with image files in Windows Explorer, and then hover an image file with your mouse pointer.

Version 1.8.6 fixes the bug with Intel Pentium IV processors supporting Hyper Threading technology and increases thumbnail dimensions.
