Designed to work as a supplement for Spotlight, iMango for Mac helps you see file and folder locations in an organized way. It features an interface that is arguably more intuitive than what Spotlight offers.

Organized and intuitive file searching: iMango for Mac comes with a highly intuitive interface. You can do searches by using the name of files or folders or keywords corresponding to the contents of files. Results are displayed in a hierarchy or folder structure view, so you can quickly find the things you need, especially if you are familiar with the organization of files in your computer.

Drag to search: Perhaps the most interesting feature of iMango for Mac is its ability to do a search as you drag a certain file into the iMango window. Once you drag a TIFF image, for example, the application will show you all the folders that contain TIFF files. Also, if multiple similar files are dragged, the application will search for files that match or are similar to the names of the files being dragged.

Donationware: This application is free, although the developer is appealing for a $5 donation from users.

Only for OS X 10.6 or later: It would have been better if this great app could be used in even older Mac laptops or desktops.

"Exclude Hidden Files and Folders" could be better: There is no option to prevent the application from searching into the system folders or hidden files that should not be tampered with.

Bottom Line

iMango for Mac is a great file and folder browsing tool. You may not use the "drag to search" feature often, but it's a great thing to have. You will also appreciate how the developer is very responsive to users who post their comments on the official Wolfram Teetz SD blog.

Developer's Description

Find your files easily.
iMango is a supplement of Spotlight. It finds files, folders or contents in any file and diplays the results in a tree view, so that you can browse through the folder structure of the results much quicker and more intuitively than in Spotlight. Drag files onto the window (e.g. one word file from your Desktop) to quickly get an overview which subfolders of your desktop contain word files. If you can find some similar files, try selecting 2 or more of them at once and dragging them onto iMango together. iMango will search the files that contain the largest common substring - e.g. for "Annual marketing report 2013.docx" and "Annual business report 2013.xlsx" it will search all files containing "report 2013." automatically.
