  Pros

  It will display an image without with visible menus, and if you want without a title bar. When focus is removed, it will display the image with no border. If the image has transparent background, once focus is removed, the desktop or underlying windows show through the transparent part, and one can click through it as well. One can freeze an image to a specific location, with no border, and no background, and it will be there next time you start windows. In full-screen mode it truly uses all of the screen. It works with 64-bit Windows. It builds the index so fast it seems immediate, and the index shows the filenames and the resolutions as well as thumbnail of whatever size you want. It displays images almost instantly. You can use SHIFT + MOUSE-WHEEL to scroll through the images. It consumes very little RAM memory and CPU, so you can leave it running without crowding the system. It has a slideshow mode. It has the basic image editing tools.

  Cons

  It will launch from File Explorer if you make the proper settings, but it does not add an entry to the file explorer context menu; I don't need it to. It does not do all the things that PhotoShop will do, but I have PhotoShop for those things, and I wouldn't want Image Eyeto consume that much memory anyway. When you first open an image, it is not full screen, but double-clicking on it makes it full screen, and it stays full screen as you scroll through images, until you double-click it again to return to a window view. Hitting the right or left arrow, as in Windows Photo Viewer, rotates the image rather than advancing it; one must remember to use PageUp/PageDown or SHIFT + WHEEL; but in slideshow mode the arrows advance or reverse the show. Unlike Windows Photo Viewer and File Explorer, there is no option to open the image in an editor of one's choice, like PhotoShop.

  Summary

  Basically, the cons are trivial, whereas Image Eye does several tasks that other viewers don't do or don't do as well. So Image Eye is exactly what I wanted for those tasks. For other tasks I can use File Explorer, Windows Photo Viewer, and PhotoShop. (Actually I'm not sure when I would need Windows Photo Viewer.) One task I wanted was to pin an image of my wife in the corner of the screen (actually a second monitor). If I used Windows Photo Viewer, then it had a menu and border, with no transparency and no click-through. In addition, when I opened other images using Windows Photo Viewer, they opened in the same corner window, over my wife's image. And if I chose to close all the Viewer images, my wife's image closed as well. Image Eye let me freeze her image to the monitor, with a transparent click-through background and no borders or menu. And when I restart the computer, it is already there. Wonderful!

• Forces you to click around too much

  Has the basic functions you'd expect in an image viewer.

  Cons

  - Limited set of hotkeys forces you to click around to define how you want to view an image (cumbersome). - Apparently no way to add custom hot keys. - No persistency, it reverts to default settings when you switch images. E.G. if I specify fit to screen, then the next image won't be fit to screen anymore. - In full view mode it sometimes displays EXIF data about picture's image editor (an eyesore). - Couldn't view full size on secondary larger screen, only showed thin bar along left side of the screen (Windows 8 related bug?). Might be other stuff but I gave up on it at this point.

  Summary

  What use is fractionally faster image loading if the software slows you down in other ways?

  Pros

  Easy to install. Easy to use. Really Fast. No problem with foreign language directory capable of viewing so many different formats.

  none for a picture viewing software.

  Best picture viewing software ever. I am deleting all my other picture viewing software. But you do need another software for editing purpose.

  Pros

  What I liked about it most was how you can drag the windows so you can use an onscreen ruler to measure your picture without having to contend with preset picture sizes. Just like the c-net reviewer said this program is very quick and clean.

  The simple, minimalistic image viewer I've been looking for You can hide the title bar/window frame, showing literally only the picture Plays GIFs

  No key configuration (and no navigating via the arrow keys)

• Great for simple image viewing

  Pros

  Minimal interface lets you use the most of your screen, quickly loads images. Plays animated GIFs (which already makes it superior to Microsoft's own image viewer.)

  Cons

  Animated GIFs have this weird flash between frames, but are still viewable. Would have been better to use the native Windows file selector instead of its own somewhat-clunky version (with very blah repeating background).
