  Pros

  Easy to use, many nice features. The features I like most is: tag-editing, high-lighting tags which is great with nested div-boxes. Customizable keyboard short-cuts and the the quick shift between previewing in Explorer an Firefox.

  Cons

  I miss the drag 'n drop of files which automatically create a link. No integrated Image Mapper. No automatic conversion of special characters to entities.

  Summary

  I have been used to Homesite 5.5 but after shifting to Vista it stopped working. And I couldn't justify the expence of Dreamweaver. Even though I think there is room for improvements, HTMLPad 2008 has been a very good replacement.

• Effective textbased html editor - Homesite replacement

  Pros

  I have been looking for a replacement for Homesite 5.5 which wasn't working with my Vista. Like with Homesite you can make a very clean HTML code and customize the program to improve your efficiency.

  You need to have at least basic HTML knowledge

  For those of us who learned html the "old school" way, this is a fantastic editor to bring us into the newer standards. For those of us who are already familiar with the newer standards, this is the one editor that can really work for you and even extend your abilities. When I first tried this (originally back when it was htmlpad 2006) I was intimidated by CSS and by the abundant tools in the interface. I have to say this editor practically taught me CSS as it went along with my old basic html style of hand-coding at the same time. The price is right - this is far better than the average free editor but priced affordably for someone who wants a good solid commercial app. I honestly never thought I'd pay for an HTML editor, because most of them are bloated wysiwyg junk. This is definitely not. If you're already familiar with HTML coding from scratch, but you want a faster more efficient way to code (without the bloat of a wysiwyg) then you absolutely have to try this. Great product, great support, great price = 5 stars.

  The user interface is very easy to live with. <p>The extensible snippet library allows you to create your own short-cuts. <p>The point and click for selecting links, scripts, etc. is very useful, resulting in very few bad links. <p>The editor very seldome gets in the developers road! <p>Support via the Support Forum is usually very quick and quite helpful.

  Cons

  Nothing significant; but then no software is ever perfect for every user. This product is better than most. I use it to complement TextPad (I couldn't do without either.

  I use HTMLPad for editing HTML, ASP, CSS and Javascript and it also supports other languages. I have tried the other available editors and I find this one the easiest and most convenient to use. You can edit your HTML, CSS, ASP and Javascript using the same editor. It is small and fast loading also, which I like. Using the FTP Features you can open files directly from your Web Site and edit them. This is much faster than downloading, changing then uploading the changed file. <p>The editor has all the features that I need and the syntax coloring is good. The price for the program is very reasonable and the support is excellent. Try it, I think you will like it.

  Cons

  There are always things that could be improved in any program, but this is a very solid program at a very reasonable price. I think it is the best value on the market.

• Absolutely FIrst Rate

  Pros

  An all-in-one product that lets you stay in a single program to edit .css and .html. Full support for almost every coding language known. Good built-in preview capability and smooth integration with external browsers. As I have become more familiar with the program, I have noted that when I start to think, "I wish it did "this" that it probably does. This program can be used by pro's and it will also help beginners learn to code. Very good email support from the author.

  Cons

  FTP support is a little weak. It works, it just doesn't have any bells or whistles. WebDav would be nice for a future enhancement.
