Hoster for Windows

• Bad software but support is even worse

  mcpublicJanuary 25, 2015

  Pros

I was able to download and review a demo and also ask numerous questions before being asked to pay for the product. Unfortunately, none of my questions were answered and most of the questions which I posted to the "support center" were never even updated to a "reviewed" status. I gave up after hoping and waiting for weeks.

  Cons

The software is poorly built. I would say poorly designed but that would give too much credit to the builder(s) who obviously is not a software designer. Example, on just one screen, there are three different places to independently adjust the key for the same song and same vocalist. After waiting weeks, my support request remains unanswered regarding why there are three different independent places on the same screen to change the key for the same song and vocalist and what the impact of changing any one of them would be to the program for that day or the vocalist's database. This is just one example of multiple unanswered questions I posted to the support center. Many have a status indicating they still have not even been read after numerous days. Perhaps, the Support Center program may be as faulty as Hoster itself.

  Summary

If you are looking for a toy, give it a try. If your time is valuable or you are putting your reputation on the line using karaoke software professionally, I encourage you to seek better software and test out their support. BTW, instead of giving a straight written answer to one of my specific support center submissions about how this software was supposed to work, he expected me to let him get into my PC remotely, take control over it, and then take my time to talk to me about it. I reiterated my desire to receive a written response, in part because it was absent in the HELP files and because I didn't think it wise to let a complete stranger run my PC remotely. I never heard from him again in spite of me submitting additional specific Support Center questions as a potential customer. NEVER let a stranger take control of your computer remotely if you have, or ever even expect in the future to have, personal data on it! I am a retired I/T professional who has done every step of software development and implementation for multiple multi-million dollar companies. As such, my professional opinion is that this software was pieced together by one hobbyist type person who has precious little analysis, design, programming, implementation, and customer service skills. Issues abound not only in Hoster but are even more apparent should you venture into the HELP files and try to use Customer Support Center. FINAL WARNING: Do not be misled by the name: MTU.com. This appears to be a tiny one man web site and niche application that has nothing at all to do with MTU.EDU

• Been using Hoster for at least 7 years

  MichbabeJune 8, 2013

  Pros

rotation moves faster. Easy to use. Recently I paid for a much needed update. My program was quite old, but I always had the if it's not broke why fix it attitude. But I was having a few crashes at my shows and figured it was time to get the bugs cleaned out. Upgraded, had NEW problems BUT they worked with me for HOURS until we had everything running smoothly. I can't say enough good words about this program and the people who work with you. Thanks to Bryan for all his hard work.

  Cons

I have nothing to say here..

  Summary

I wouldn't want to have to do without Hoster. It has made my karaoke shows fun and easy. Thank YOU!!!

• Best Karaoke Hosting program available

  alanrosskMarch 28, 2013

  Pros

I have been using MTU's products since 2002 when I first discovered their Hoster program. Because I wasn't sure about switching to computer from discs, I continued to carry my triple-tray player and all my discs to every show for about six months, just in case anything went wrong with the program. I never once had an issue with the program and since then, all my original discs have been sitting comfortably on the shelves I've built for them in my office. Over the years, Hoster has grown and developed into a true workhorse. Each new release of Hoster has brought new innovations and better service for me and our shows. Just some of the features that are included with the program: The ability to print out really nice looking song books that reflect your actual inventory of songs; Preloaded key changes; On-the-fly Key changes; Singer's database; Background music between songs that plays automatically; It plays Videos and non-Karaoke audio tracks; Song Search, File indexing and more!

  Cons

At first glance, the program can look intimidating to a new user, but the included user's manual makes short work of understanding everything. There is a learning curve, but with the manual, the forums on the MTU web site, or calling their customer service, there's no issue you can't resolve.

  Summary

MTU has proven to me that they really care about the end user. I have made suggestions on their forums for features I'd like to see in their Hoster program and they not only listened, but they implemented them! Having been with them for so long, I can attest to their continued commitment to make Hoster the number one Karaoke hosting program on the market. AND, if you're still unsure about buying Hoster, buy the Hoster Lite version. It's much less expensive and it has almost all the great features of their full Hoster program. Once you've gotten used to using it, you'll not only want to upgrade to the full version, but you'll never use another hosting program.

  elvis43March 15, 2013

  Pros

Loaded with features that are extra's with other companies. Constantly adding new features to improve the karaoke experience. Micro Technology listens to their customers ideas and request to improve the program.

  Cons

None that I have found and I have been dealing with this company since 2003!

  Summary

Micro Technology backs up their products. They offer free upgrades for year and sometimes extend this even longer. Great products and great people that run the company!

• Does what I need it to do for my karaoke show PLUS!!!!

  LonmanProMarch 12, 2013

  Pros

Many bells and whistles to improve any show. Stable, never had a crash like some other programs. Plays video files. Great search engine, singer & song history - I could go on!

  Cons

  It doesn't do dishes!

  Summary

I've been using Hoster since 2007 back in the 3 releases and never had as much as a hiccup while running a show. I run 7 nights a week. I have tried (and do keep up with) the other hosting software on the market & always go back to Hoster, haven't found anything I prefer better.

• ROCK SOLID Karaoke Hosting Software

  rikki300March 12, 2013

  Pros

Every feature you could want for your Karaoke experience, whether you are a Professional KJ or a hobbiest, here is the tried & true leader in the industry. Ripping karaoke music from CDG's or downloading MP3+G selections from the Internet has never been easier or done so accurately, as this software supports it and the quality has to be experienced to be appreciated . Company support listens to it's customers, and periodically adds new features to this outstanding software. Great for Singer rotations, Singer Database of previous performance and pitch & tempo adjustments are just a click away, and can be performed on the fly. Songbook Creator, Scrolling Marquee, Next Singer Listing, Background Audio Player for Jukebox style song play, and the best help forum of experienced KJ's and Singers from all over the world.

  Cons

  None, Nada, Zilch... Completely Satisfied!

  Summary

I've been hosting Karaoke for 20 years, and have seen the industry changed dramatically by the computerized software hosting programs, making it as easy as possible to experience karaoke. You won't be disappointed with MTU Hoster loaded on your computer. You'll enjoy the ease, and the amount of control you have over the Karaoke performance, whether it's in your home, or a packed Nightclub of enthusiastic singers! Try the demo, and see for yourself!

• Best Karaoke Software out there, Hands Down!

  bblueeyes941March 11, 2013

  Pros

This is the only all inclusive Karaoke Software that just works. Many of the other software out there, you must purchase all the different parts to create your books, import discs etc... but Video Hoster comes with this all included. This also is the easiest Karaoke Software to learn/use on the market, from what I have looked at. The company is one of the longest running companies in Karaoke, nothing like some of the fly by night companies on the web today. Features keep getting put in, and they are still in heavy developement all the time!

  Cons

I have no complaints on the software in the last 8 years of my use.

  Summary

I will always be an MTU customer!

• Easy to learn and use! Built in Song Book Creator!

  kkelley597January 11, 2013

  Pros

Hoster comes with an online manual that is easy to comprehend. Quick online technical support either through MTU's forum or Help ticket submission process. With Hoster having been around for so many years, there are numeous individuals that are knowledgeable about the application and can render fairly quick assistance through the forum when it comes to technical problems. No need for other software to play background music or videos between singers as it comes with a Background player or you can open a second instance of Hoster to handle the job. Insta buttons that allow for sound effects, music, or videos to be played immediately! Key change and Tempo change allows for adjusting the song to the singers voice. One of the newest features, parterning with All Star Karaoke, allows KJ's to purchase, download, and play songs from the internet. Singers Database maintains a list of songs a singer has performed and allows me to make a quick selection for them when they walk in the door!

  Cons

  Can't think of any.

  Summary

Since I started using Video Hoster my Karaoke Show Rotation has gone from 7 - 9 songs per hour (using disks, waiting for it to load and find the track) to 15 - 17 songs per hour (just search the database and double click or drag & drop in the playlist) which gives my singers the ability to sing more songs during a show. That is more songs than most band perform in an hour! I no longer have to worry about scratching and ruining a CD or DVD as they are only handled once, to up load to my data base! Thanks MTU for a Great Product!
