This primitive, text-based game strikes as a virtual version of the popular Choose-Your-Own-Adventure series of children s books. HLA Adventure is reminiscent of some of the earliest computer games of the 1980s. Your primary goal in this medieval quest is to remove an evil dragon from the kingdom. You play by reading the text scenario and entering commands; there are no graphics or sound effects. Unfortunately, HLA Adventure has minimal hints and tips, so learning what commands the game will accept is largely a trial-and-error process. In one instance, we found ourselves inside of a store with a clerk. However, no matter what we did, we couldn t figure out how to buy anything or even speak to the person behind the counter. The game also comes up short in the features department, as it doesn t offer a single user-customization option that we could find. We can see how this free program could potentially provide a bit of fun to more imaginative folks, but the developer first needs to make it clearer how the game is played.

HLA Adventure is an adventure game. The premise is to defeat an evil dragon lurking within a nearby cave. Several puzzles will confound the player throughout. It is written in Randall Hyde's HLA programming language. The game features Mippy, a cute dragon that lives happily in the forests and caves and often comes out during the later part of the day to eat leaves, smoulder decaying trees, and generally romp around like every good dragon should. The author welcomes improvements and enhancements to HLA Adventure. The game includes the assembly source code necessary for program compilation. People who have helped contribute to this project include Frank Kotler, Randy Hyde, Sevag Krikorian and Ryan McLaughlin (among many others).

Version 2.32 includes more than 223 rooms, 25 items, 10 quests, and 30 monsters.
