Guaranteed Word Decrypter for Windows

Decryption specialists PSW-soft's Guaranteed Word Decrypter (GuaWord) is a simple command-line utility for decrypting DOC files used in Microsoft Word 97, 2000, XP, 2002, and 2003 in its default (40-bit) mode. It won't decrypt files from Word versions prior to 97, French versions of Word, or Word files using newer 128-bit or 256-bit encryption. Additionally, it doesn't recover passwords but simply removes them.  

However, for opening compatible Word files, GuaWord is an effective tool, albeit a bit old-school. 

GuaWord's executable file is completely portable and requires no installation. The zipped package includes detailed instructions in the ReadMe file and a utility that leverages the power of Nvidia CUDA-capable graphics cards to accelerate decryption. The program tests about a trillion keys to guarantee decryption of any password in any language, typically completing the process in about a day when using GPU acceleration.  

Conveniently, the download includes a password-protected Word document for demonstration. Using the tool involves opening the Command Prompt, entering the necessary commands, and letting GuaWord decrypt the file—an entirely straightforward process for those familiar with command-line interfaces. 

When compared to modern tools like PassFab for Word or Stellar Toolkit for File Repair, GuaWord shines for its guaranteed decryption capability but lacks the user-friendly interface and versatility of newer software. PassFab offers a slick GUI and faster decryption for newer Word versions, while Stellar Toolkit includes recovery options for corrupt files. GuaWord, however, is perfect for legacy Word documents and is optimized for users comfortable with command-line tools. 

The freeware demo version of GuaWord v1.7 is fully functional but includes a fixed password limitation. We tested it on Windows 10 and 11, where it worked smoothly.  

With several licensing options, GuaWord provides flexibility for users, ensuring they only pay for what they need. For those managing older Word files, it remains a reliable and specialized solution.
