Editors' Review
With Google Slides for iOS, you can create new presentations or open, edit, and save existing ones in both Slides and PowerPoint formats. Work on your presentations on your own or with others, anytime, anywhere, and then access them later from any device with an Internet connection.
Pros
Plenty of templates and themes: Build your own presentation from scratch or choose from 20 templates and 18 themes suitable for school, work, or your personal life.
11 slide formatting options: Each time you add a new slide, you'll have 11 format options, such as Title and Body, Title and Two Columns, Title Only, Caption, and, of course, Blank.
More than words: Aside from text, you can incorporate new and existing photos, tables, lines, and myriad shapes in your presentations.
Plays well with others: Not only can you create new presentations through this app, but you can also invite others to collaborate with you. When you open a Slides presentation for collaboration or share a link with others, you can decide whether they can edit, comment, or only view.
PowerPoint compatible: You can open, edit, and save PowerPoint files within Slides or save a Slides presentation as a PowerPoint file to share.
Autosaves: Everything you create through this app can be saved online, so you can access it later from another device.
Works offline: Google Slides from iOS also works without an Internet connection, so you can work even when you're out of Wi-Fi range.
Present from your phone or over a video call: Press the Play button in the top rail, then select Present on this device. Or select Present to a new video call to invite an audience, then start presenting. You can even take questions and comments during a video call presentation.
Cons
Less robust than PowerPoint: Google Slides can do a lot for a free app but not nearly as much as paid PowerPoint. PowerPoint is better at embedding video and Web content and provides more presentation templates, design options, and file-conversion options.
Bottom Line
Google Slides for iOS is a great free alternative to costly PowerPoint. Just don't expect it to do everything that Microsoft's presentation app can do.
