Pros
Great idea, would be a nice software add-on for gmail.
Cons
Doesn't install. Instructions say to click the executable file or JAR however you won't find one here in this download on cnet for some reason.
Summary
Try contacting the manufacturer direct for a proper download.

The help text says, "GmailAssistant is contained in a single executable JAR file, zero installation, just double-click on GmailAssistant.jar to run", but that brings up a box headed Java Virtual Machine Launcher, with the message, "Could not find main class. Program will exit." Updated on Mar 10, 2009Affirmative, I have version 6.0.110 which was the latest until 4 days ago. It has only just been updated to 6.0.120 on 6 March 2009.

Pros
Clean and simple interface. Great functionality. We will probably see more of this one on the web. The main reason I got this is because most applications dont support Google Apps Gmail. It reminds me of GMail Notifier but comes with many more options.
Cons
Haven't found a way to access my mailbox with a click. Missing an installer. Therefore graded 4 out of 5.

Choose from different notification options (unread mails in inbox only, all mails, or with specified labels) and alert methods (popup message, chime, blink keyboard LED). Free and open source software written in Java.

Version 2 includes IMAP IDLE support, ability to minimize on startup, and automatic update check.
