GimmeSomeTune is an application that extends iTunes' functionality. With GimmeSomeTune, you can download lyrics and album covers without the user having to do anything - so that he can do things the computer can't do for him. Last.fm and remote control support are available for you at your fingertips. Furthermore, it shows you iTunes' currently playing song in a beautiful floating window, which you can hide with the push of a button, and it can as easily be brought back to the foreground. GimmeSomeTune offers the user a lyrics-window, which shows you the lyrics of the currently playing song. In this window, you can also edit the lyrics on the fly, and, if GimmeSomeTune can't find any lyrics, look for them on Google. Of course, GimmeSomeTune features a vast number of hotkeys to control iTunes (and parts of GimmeSomeTune itself) out of any application. Alternatively, or as a complement, there is a mini-controller that lets you control iTunes with the mouse. To please every individual user, GimmeSomeTune has functionality to change it's appearance. The user can, amongst other things, modify the infowindow and the status menu. Even the information GimmeSomeTune shows you is changeable. Other features of GimmeSomeTune are support for iChat, a "Recently Played" menu and a daemon, which starts and quits GimmeSomeTune whenever iTunes starts or quits. I couldn't get rid of it and can't get the developer's site link on the VT page to open. Outside of that, it's a handy thing to have.

I don't see the point. GimmeSomeTune does everything I want and is easily customizable. I modified my hotkeys so they're all intuitive to me, and I pretty much keep iTunes hidden and just use Gimme. My only (very minor) complaint is that saving edits you make to fetched lyrics could be little easier. /yes, I donated

I downloaded this program after searching for a menubar iTunes controller. When I learned that this program is a menubar controller, album art downloader, lyrics downloader and can update your iChat status with your current song, plus it integrates with last.fm and can even work with the Apple Remote, I wondered why anyone would bother with downloading all those tools separately. I can attest that every feature has worked without issue (I don't have the Apple Remote, so that's the only thing I haven't tried). I'm especially impressed with having my missing album art and lyrics automatically loaded as I listen to my songs.
Cons
It does a poor job at washing my dishes. Seriously, that's probably the only thing this Swiss Army knife of an iTunes utility can't do.

One suggestion: Provide an option for the Lyrics window to open by default (and stay open) when the app starts up. Many users will principally want this app for its lyrics capability - i.e. so they can see the lyrics whenever iTunes is playing a song.

Especially the automatic lyrics-fetching, and the copious easy keyboard commands - to view & edit lyrics, plus to control the player! All in a nice semi-transparent window. Tons of options (mini controls for the menu bar) and customizations. Still a little buggy though. If I pause for more than a few minutes, GimmeSomeTune seems to shut itself off and has to be relauched manually. It's also frozen a couple times, making it impossible to close the layover windows until it finishes whatever process got it stuck in the first place. (Quitting iTunes seems to force it closed, but that's a pain in the butt.) FYI for programmer: I'm on a 1.33ghz iBook, 768MB RAM, OS 10.4.9
