- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
My original purpose in purchasing iEye Captain was to control the channel switching of my Satellite TV Set Top Box. I have EyeTV 200 and the Zephir USB IR remote. That combination works beautifully and provides "one click" timed recording. However, in addition to my original desire I keep finding new uses for iEye Captain. It allows convienent viewing of multiple EyeTV archives and helps with organizing, maintaining and exporting the videos and descriptions. I'm extremely pleased with iEye Captain and would recommend it for all EyeTV users.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
A couple of years ago, after finally switching to digital cable, I wanted a way to have my eyeTV box change channels on my cable box. Of course this wasn't happening, so I switched to ReplayTV. I was tired of paying for Replay service, so I went looking for something that would integrate with eyeTV and operate an IR transmitter to change the channels on my cable box. There are many other things that iEye Captain can do, but this is all I use it for and it does an incredible job. The one problem I've had, the developer has been very responsive about and has told me exactly where it fits into the development schedule (although he has since said that it will be in the next build instead of waiting until when he was originally going to fix it). Granted, it's not perfect because it is beta software. It is amazing that a single developer with a day job has been able to put this kind of work into the project. Kudos!
Not quite ready yet but looks like it will be handy...

- ...when it's ready.
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
EyeTV 2.0, 10.4.4, MDD dual 867, plenty-o memory and HD space. iEye does look kind of like 2.0 but can't compare to the standard iTunes look of 2.0. It seems buggy. I could not see a way to add a schedule or edit a schedule directly in it. Adding an item to a playlist doesn't appear to be drag and drop as it should be, and I see no way to add a recording to a playlist other than going through EyeTV and then reloading iEye Captain. Every time I click on an Info button the iEye main window goes away never to come back until I relaunch it. The Edit button, or contextual menus Edit doesn't seem to work well at all for Schedules other than Select all or Duplicate Schedule. If I go to "Edit with EyeTV" nothing happens, like a lot things do in this. Edit does work for recordings by bringing up EyeTV. It know you put a lot into this, I respect the work of developers, but I can't see this beta being worth $20. With it's current state, and no Help menu, but add it's potential, I'm Neutral on it at this time. At least from my trying it out I wouldn't do it due to all the bugs I encountered. Maybe it's because I'm on 2.0 of EyeTV? You do say it is supposed to work with it though. It has a lot of potential, it's just really non-functional right now for me in its current state.
Final Release Anywhere In Sight?!?!?!?!?

I waited for the "late November release date" that came and went. $30 is a lot of money to throw blindly at a program that seems mired in perpetual beta. Is there any movement on this project at all? A revised release schedule is more than necessary.
