Create alphabetic index of thousand of names for genealogical data repositories.

GenDB is a free program which allows anybody to go out and perform a personal indexing project of a cemetery. Once completed it allows for simple data entry. It automatically alphabetizes the entries using advanced sorting algorithms which can alphabetize thousands of names in seconds. After the names are entered and alphabetized, the software program will automatically create both an alphabetized text file and HTML Web site source code file. You can submit either the text file or HTML file to one of the free genealogical data repositories available on the Internet, such as the one found at Rootsweb.com. Or, you could create your own genealogy Web site and use the HTML file there. GenDB Cemetery is supposed to take care of all of the technical aspects of the project, from start to finish. This current file listed has a setup program that will only work on Windows XP.

Simple cemetery grave database

Not many features, not what we needed (a way to catalog graves and tag them to a cemetery map of sections, plots, etc.).

Pros
Simple to use, creates the HTML file for you which is formatted simply and very easy to read the information inputted.
Cons
Like the other reviews, it would be a better program if it were updated and we had a bit more functionality, even with just a 'headstone transcription' box, other than just a basic 'additional comments' box, which often doesn't leave enough room for all the information.
Summary
Free,simple and does what it says it will. For the other people who can't edit what they put in to the database, if you will open up the '___ Cemetery Sorted.txt' file and edit what you need to in there, save it and edit the same information in the Unsorted.txt file and apend the data in the GenDB programme, it will change in the HTML file. Worked for me (I put an age wrong in one entry and managed to change it this way.)

Small and easy to enter data

Can't edit data once entered so don't make a mistake or you have to start over. Can't run reports (only viewable as html file). Have to enter cemetery comments every time you add a name or they are deleted.
Summary
May as well us Excel spreadsheet.
It's is what I have been looking for.
