This program aims to help you assemble genealogical reports about your family history. Genbox Family History gives you a large number of options for compiling detailed charts, so we would have liked a step-by-step wizard to walk us through the complicated and crowded interface.

The application lets you store basic information, such as names, events, and relationships, as well as more in-depth data regarding ancestry and pedigree. Not only does Genbox Family History arrange names and events into a genealogical chart, it helps you conduct research by managing your targets and correspondence.

The program seems to have almost everything a genealogist needs, although more inexperienced users likely will find themselves overwhelmed. We like the fact you can work with several databases at once, and the tools for helping you cope with different spellings of the same surname are a welcome addition. Due to its complexity, we can only really recommend this program to advanced users familiar with this type of software.

Version 3.7.1 adds some minor enhancements and a number of corrections.

Ridiculously Complex, Ridiculously Designed

Pros
This software will create a variety tree charts for you if you try hard. You will be able to move the individual's boxes around somewhat. You will be able to import a GEDCOM file.
Cons
Overly complex, anti-userfriendly, and useless help instructions. Editing information requires an act of Congress.
Summary
Thoughtful Creations, the creator of this monstrosity, should put more THOUGHT into their CREATION. I'm still trying to decipher their help files. Creating a tree chart really shouldn't be this difficult. These people, apparently, just love to write code just to up space in memory.

It didn't give me the flexibility or the detail fields I needed for tracking people with multiple relationships and children that issued from them. Also a review should NOT "require" that all fields be used. It should allow the user to state what they wish to in the manner they wish to use.

A good price for a product that does the job. Reasonably intuitive with a bit of practice. Probably has more to offer than a keen amateur would need so encourages you to do more.
Cons
Not a lot. Perhaps the ability to print charts could be a bit easier.

Pros
If you only want to put a bunch of names in and look at a Chart, choose another program. If you want to create a database of your family history, choose this package. <p> <p>It has an extremely easy interface that allows anyone to jump right in and create a family tree. The front-end screen for data entry is simple and fairly intuitive. Very powerful database with ability to link multimedia files to your family tree. <p> <p>After you go beyond the first screen, things can get a little complicated. This is where some computer savvy will come in handy. Not to say that is impossible to use, but someone with only basic skills may find difficult to use. Well worth the money for anyone interested in creating a really nice family tree dbase.

The chart options include source citations, box widths sized to content, multiple key individuals, legend boxes, various styles and content for arbitrary groups, multimedia support, wall, fan, time line, book layout, print preview, editing capabilities, and output to JPEG, PNG, and BMP formats. The reports include ancestor, descendant, family group, outline, pedigree, calendar, and custom layouts with output to RTF and HTML. The tools include advanced querying, a problem spotter, a relationship calculator, a spell checker, and sophisticated list processing. Includes full Unicode support with translations for 11 languages. Version 3.7.1 adds some minor enhancements and a number of corrections.
