A promising mix of strategy, simulation, and role play, Gangland is a solid game with few noticeable shortcomings. You are leader of a small gang in a fantastic Paradise City resembling America in the 1930s. Your task is to manage restaurants and brothels, hire gangsters and command them to fight for you. We were fairly impressed with the game's 3D graphics. You can move the point-of-view camera in any direction, while easy shortcuts allow you to jump to a certain view immediately. The buildings of the city are very detailed; Paradise City has plenty of people on the street, and acts and feels just like a real city. Unfortunately, however, the people models are not varied enough and at times your thugs look just the same as innocent bystanders. Fighting isn't a whole lot of fun as game controls are clunky and things happen too fast. A fast right-clicker will do better than those who want a convenient pause button to think about what to do next. One of the nicer touches of the game story in Gangland is you're also responsible for a family and kids, who can run special errands for you. All said, fans of Mafia-styled games or Godfather-wannabes will definitely find this game entertaining.

Pick your mob boss and edge out the competition in two maps.

In this real-time strategy game, players must build blooming business empires by intimidating local merchants to gain access to ammunition and weapons, and to produce resources such as liquor and stolen goods. Players will need to marry strong women and get children who are imperative for any Don who wants a large, powerful family. Players also must establish good relationships with the "International Connections" to secure access to Super Units and Super Vehicles, and will need to gain XP with their hero to survive the street fights in Paradise City.

Pick your mob boss character and work to edge out the competition in the two-player conquest map and six-player shoot map. The conquest mode can be played as a skirmish against the computer.
