Adjust the gamma curve of your screen.

Gamma Control is an application that gives you the possibility to adjust the gamma correction curve of the screen. Use the application to calibrate the screen for new ambiant conditions without having to use the ColorSync Calibration Assistant. You can save your multiple settings in documents and retrieve them when needed. The settings you change are not saved into the current ColorSync profile and are restored when you quit Gamma Control.

A Savior for Dell LCD users

A good looking, inexpenesive monitor - but one that is brighter than the sun. This app literally saved me from having to return the monitor because it enabled me to turn down the whites (hint hold command down to turn them down all at once. I love the fact that I can dock the app and therefor easily turn the correction on and off. I tried many calibration tools, but nothing would let me just get the whites down to a viewable area. I hope other mac users with Dell monitors discover this application. Thanks.
