Perhaps useful for a quick game of Quake, this proxy program isn't robust enough (or perhaps secure enough) to invite the whole neighborhood over. FreeProxy creates a virtual server that allows a number of users to share an Internet connection.

If you've never managed a proxy before, this program might not be the best place to start -there's no help file, and it's not the most intuitive process. While you can add IP addresses and user names to the proxy, you also can block addresses as well.

FreeProxy also is able to track connections, and record them on a log file. Yet we were surprised (and a bit alarmed) to find there's no password protection or other security feature for people joining the group. Overall, FreeProxy's good for a small party, but it's not for beginners.

Very Good Proxy/Web Cache

I don't understand what the negative comments are all about! this program is free from any viruses or malwares, if your AV flag it then it's false-positive. and for those ignorant people who can't get it to work, just go to YouTube and you'll find a video that will take you through the setup. duh!! I've been using FreeProxy for a while - at work and home and it works great :-) it has some great features/services beside web caching which I've taken advantage of - such as SMTP, HTTPS used with my exchange server.

It's free of charge! With much functionality, such as HTTP proxy and proxy caching, though I haven't used them all. I've only used the port redirection feature and it works like a charm.
Cons
Yet to see its cons.
Summary
My server machine was behind a firewall that doesn't allow port 80 to come through. Thus I have to use port 8021. However Vista doesn't support 8021 as the WebDAV port. With this tool, I can redirect port 8021 to port 80, and then Vista works happily.

The CNET reviewer has obviously never managed a proxy. His/Her assessment is completely wrong. This is a robust piece of software and has a very comprehensive helpfile.

None. Would like a 64-bit version as well.

Pros
An easy to install and configure proxy program. It can be as simple or complex as you like. It also provides tunnelling capability. All of this functionality is logically grouped in the simple to use interface.<p>This is a very solid product that has been in production for well over 8 years supporting 200+ remote users. During this time I have seen the product mature and improve substantially.<p>The performance compares favourably with commercial products that cost significantly. More importantly though it is not overly complex or complicated which is the way most commercial products are heading. They are so feature rich or tied into the operating system you need two weeks training just to get them running. Not so with FreeProxy, it was essentially running within 10 minutes of installation.<p>A specific problem that I faced (SOAP web packets) was dealt with personally by the author Greg Robson, a very smart guy!<p>Overall this is a fantastic product that does what its supposed to do. I am very happy with the product and have no hesitation recommending it.
Cons
Responses on the forum can sometimes be slow for unknown problems. But remember to check the KB as it has answers to many users problems.
