Users who have trouble with font caches may need an easy way to display and clear them. FontNuke for Mac is an easy-to-use, yet effective program for those few users who must remove these records.

This free program downloaded and installed easily without any problems. A simple readme file accompanied the program, but it contained no user instructions. Support for updates was available, but the presence of other technical support was unknown. The main purpose of FontNuke for Mac is to display and remove font caches, which are temporary files a computer uses to track font use. Sometimes these become corrupted and need to be deleted. The application allows users to display existing caches and clear them. The program's menu is easy-to-navigate, with three large buttons that are easy to identify. Other smaller buttons allow the user to search for caches and delete them. While simple, the program performed its function well, displaying and deleting file caches.

Users without experience in this area could run into problems if they use the application improperly, which is a problem since the program lacks instructions. Experienced Mac users who need to easily clear font caches that are causing problems will find FontNuke for Mac a useful application.

BUGFIX: Fixed an issue where FontNuke would not remove all of the detected font cache files prior to reboot.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com. Okay the final outcome!!! The number count on Jan-8-2009 was 1.0750685e+6 (way over a million) and after 16 DAYS it crashed, bummer. This second run started back on Dec-25-08 (see other posted messages), and really u can't use the computer while the font caches is doing it update thing, very sluggish. And u can NOT Nuke the Fonts unless you hit the updates button. If you happen to crash, then you're back to zero. I tried both the Admin-free and normal Font Nuke updates list. This time I did not want to take the chance of it crashing again, so I left the computer alone. I have screen save on, but the hard drive set on never sleep. I would check status once in awhile to see if it was still going. I used this iMac for graphic design, since 2003, I ran OS9 classic and switched over to Tiger in 2005 when I had new software, may be that is why it won't work? I will do a re-install Tiger today. Whether it that gets rid of font caches I don't now? With all the great reviews on Font Nukes I was really hoping it get the job done. And I'm also disappointed not hear from my postings and alert message to this site manager. FYI: I do not recommend this program with my kind of situation, I have wasted almost a month on this.

I'm on an INTEL Mac, op system 10.4.9 running CS3 suite Yesterday out of the clear blue ALL of my Adobe CS3 products refused to see an active non-corrupt postscript font file that I've been using for weeks without issue. I tried manually clearing all Adobefnt07.lst and Adobefnt11.lst files, trashed all my prefs for Suitcase fusion and Adobe apps. I ran permissions and repaired them. Nothing. Then Illustrator and Photoshop would technically see the font but call it something different. The font is called Nat Vignette One and it would call it ITC American Typewriter-Bold. InDesign wouldn't see it at all. They all would see Nat Vignette Two however. I even re-downloaded the font from myfonts.com and reinstalled. no dice. Then a friend told me about FontNuke. Wow, just wow! Thank you for creating this app. My next step without it was to trash Suitcase and start over from scratch, if that didnt' work I was going to uninstall all my Adobe CS3 apps and reinstall. Font Nuke found 1743 caches on my computer to clear - all is well now. So obviously one or more were corrupt. I can't thank you enough for FontNuke and for making it FREE.

Remove font cache files.

FontNuke is a free utility application for Mac OS X 10.4.x+ (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan) that removes corrupt and troublesome font cache files. I created this application as a tool for my personal use at the office, and has become very useful for me. To grant individual non-admin users the ability to remove font cache files, without my involvement--is huge. Not to mention intelligent application quitting, plus a guaranteed reboot, makes my life easier. FontNuke removes system font caches, Adobe font caches (*.lst), Microsoft Office font caches, and now also (as of version 1.1.9) all versions of QuarkXPress font cache files. Not to mention it's free. I have recently added an option which purges spotlight indexes on startup volume from /.Spotlight-V100. This has been added due to some intermittent unresponsiveness when searching network volumes for some of my MCX clients. Please use this feature with caution.
