Basic UI, but it WORKS, and it's totally FREE!
digitalnuke- Pros
- It fired right up, and converted my DVD to AVI, without trouble. It's FREE (unlike pretty much EVERY download on download.com, where even the "free" ones aren't free). It has no limits. TONS and TONS of options! A power-user's delight.
- Cons
- Not exactly a drag-n-drop process. Takes some digging and looking around to see how to load in a DVD, how to output it, where it's being ripped to, etc.

As to previous user's problem with ripping chapters, I'm unable to comment. My disk had 2 chapters, and I only needed the first one, and that's what I got. Oh, and if you use the default AVI settings, it makes an UNCOMPRESSED file, which is super-huge, which might be why one of the users was having stuttering problems. You have to transcode it to something like Sorenson3 (Quicktime) or DivX. There are settings to do this in FlaskMPEG, but they're definitely not a breeze to use.

Oh, and the UI's pretty stark. Not a big deal for me as long as it works, but some people might be turned off.

dosn't work
dastarwarsnerd- Pros
- uumm....its free?
- Cons
- it only does the first 2-3 chapters of a dvd, even when you tell it that you don't want chapters

Did not do well for me
amaranta720- Pros
- Fairly simple to navigate.
- Cons
- This just did not work for me. I tried several different options to get it to convert my .mpg file to .avi but the output was always jerky and halting. Also, they do not seem to have a user's manual or anything like that, either included in the download or online. Their website is a mess.

Surprize !
ma-da-lin- Pros
- Well ... some days ago I was trying to split/convert a mpg movie. I instaled over 10 diffrent programs for converting video files and every time the same result : error mesages or black output (using diffrent encoders) ...

Hopeless I have downloaded FlaskMPEG. No stars, no reviews ... and surprize !

So ... I can't recommend this product highly enough because :

1. It works when all the other programs fails :)

2. It's free.

3. It's fast.

4. Under a simple and unappealing graphic user interface I discovered a lot of options.

5. When converting video files, instead looking at a inscrutable progress bar, you can see a lot of interesting informations and watch the curent frame being converted.
- Cons
- The simple and unappealing graphic user interface ...
