Audio application that allows users to easily record their collection of old vinyl records using just the Griffin iMic and their turntable. Previously users wishing to record their old record collection had to hook up their entire stereo system just to power their turntable. Now users can connect the record player directly to their iMic, and using Final Vinyl record and save all their old albums. They can then make them into CDs, MP3s.

Final Vinyl does more than just record old albums; it is a fully functional general audio recording application as well. It can be used to record instruments, microphones, and reel-to-reel tapes plugged into the iMic. It includes a 10-band Equalizer that is capable of significantly altering and enhancing a user's sound input. Version 2.5.1 includes updated and improved user interface, new vocalreducer effect, supports opening multiple simultaneous audio files, and other improvements.

Pros
I'm about halfway thru the 400 old vinyl albums i've got sitting on my shelf.I've put them all into my mac using final vinyl. It's so easy, I'm able to get thru 3 or 4 albums a day.

Pros
I'm a novice but a musician. It allowed me to use my iMac without problems. I tried to use Audacity, but I couldn't get it to work with my iMic. It's probably me; but I didn't have time to figure out what was wrong, so I switched back to FV.

Summary
It does everything I would expect of a recording tool. I download my tape cassette and digital music with Final Vinyl then to iTunes and burn my CDs.I will transfer my 78s, 45s, 33s later and let you know how that works out.

Pros
Small, easy, free, with useful manual. Will take audio from your laptop's internal mike, headphone jack or USB. Has some really nice extras to make it extra easy to convert cassette or vinyl to digital files.
Cons
Outputs to AIFC or WAV only. Use some other software to convert to mp3 or other formats.
Summary
This software has a specific, job and it does it extremely well. The short manual in the "Goodies" folder is well worth reading, as some of the controls are well hidden. It is written as if you are using an iMic, a specific USB input device, but I used a Behringer U-Control RCA-to-USB converter to connect a tape deck to my USB port with no trouble. Any USB audio input device that you can connect to your tape deck or turntable or other audio device will probably work. Highlights: it can automatically insert marks between songs and prompt you to save them as separate files so you can run a tape or LP unattended and have the software pick out the beginning and ending of songs for you. It has a play-through button, and you don't have to be recording for it to work. You can use your computer to listen to your tapes or records. The red flashing record button and large caption means you never wonder if you are recording or not - you can't miss it. Also includes eq, fade, various AU effects and normalization controls.
