  Pros

  I had tried a couple of programs none of which was able to "get my data back". I then tried the demo version of fast file undelete, and it found the xls files I had deleted. I bought the program and had my stuff back in minutes.

  Have tried several undelete programs, this one looks similar to many of them, but it is way to slow. Used an houre to scan through my drive (20G). And didn't find the same files as the other programs, only some of them. bad, bad, bad

  Regardless of which program you use to recover your data, you need to have a basic understanding of how the recover process works. It is obvious from most of the negative responses that people downloaded the program to their hard drive, extracted it, and ran it without reading any instructions. User error #1, downloading the program to his/her hard drive. ANY file you write to your hard drive has the potential to overwrite/corrupt your deleted data. Even surfing the internet could overwrite your data because your browser usually writes out temporary files. If you happen to have a second hard drive (not a second partition), then download the program to this location. If you do not, figure out some way to put it on a floppy or burn it to a CD. Use a friend's computer or a computer at work. User Error #2, your source drive should not be the same as your destination drive. It's obvious that you can't restore to the hard drive that contains the deleted data. You might overwrite the same files that you have selected to restore. Figure out a different solution. If you are at work, or you have multiple computers connected to your home network, create a network mapping to another computer. If you happen to have a second hard drive installed in your computer, install to the hard drive that does not contain the deleted data. In my particular case, I was able to recover 4GB worth of data. Some of it was corrupt, but that is because the user continued to use the computer after the data was deleted. She got all of her important documents though. If you know anything about data recovery, you should know that it simply isn't possible to always recover 100% of the data, no matter what program you use. If your data is mission critical, send the hard drive into the expets and they might be able to reconstruct it manually. That would probably cost you a pretty penny though. I think this program is good. The price is good. I'm not an expert on data recovery, but I work in the IT industry and have a fairly good handle on file systems.

  Using Win2k. Tried to recover a txt file I delete before installing software. Most likely wrote over on unzip. Then tried to recover a file just delete. Software did not find it.
