Editors' Review
Fast File Undelete points you to deleted files, but a nonfunctioning help file means you have to figure out a few things on your own.
The program doesn't require installation, but it does come in a ZIP file. There's no file menu; options are all laid out in buttons in a single toolbar. Tooltips explain what each button is for, and some buttons (Print, Copy to File, and Exit) are self-explanatory, but additional guidance for scan options would have been nice. Fast File Undelete is short on guidance. The help file consistently failed to open, and the user manual on the publisher's Web site is for a much earlier (and unrecognizable) version of the program.
You can opt to create an indexed list of files, which shows deleted files in their source directory, or a list of files only. The application can print scan results, but the option to recover lost files is disabled in the demo version. The Configure feature didn't work in our tests, so we can't let you in on what settings or options are available. The lack of user support adds an unnecessary layer of complexity to what should be a simple scan-and-save process, so we recommend that users bypass the disappointing Fast File Undelete download.
