How to take a snapshot of your video within DVD Snapshot? The program lets you take snapshots directly from your DVD movie. This means you can go to any point within a video clip, capture a freeze frame picture, and save this image to your computers hard drive.

There are many uses for these snapshots. You can use these video pictures to create title slides. I like to find an interesting video scene that seems to symbolize my movie and capture a snapshot of it. You could also add a title directly to the picture using a photo-editing program. You could e-mail hi-light pictures of your video to friends and family. Not everyone can receive or view videos, so these pictures are a great alternative (and they don't take as long to download). You can also use the snapshot feature to transform your camcorder into a low-resolution digital camera. Simply point your camcorder at your subject and later you can go through your video and take virtual snapshots directly off the captured video. The actual process of taking these snapshot is quite easy. While viewing a video clip in the preview monitor, pause the clip at an appropriate spot, and click the "SnapShot" button under the preview monitor. Program will then ask you where you would like to save the picture.

User has the option to be asked what each snapshot will be called, or the button can be set to just take sequentially-numbered snapshots in a pre-specified folder, and using a pre-specified name prefix. (The default starts at snapshot_1.jpg.)
Cons
Although the makers speak of being able to get snapshots from AVI, MPEG, VOB and WMV, there's no File Open dialog. It seems one can ONLY get snapshots from such files when they're on a DVD disk. But then, it IS called 'DVD Snapshot', so I can't deny it lives strictly up to its name.
Summary
Overpriced for such a one-trick pony. Note that the viewing of the DVD is in a preview window. If you're hoping to be able to watch a full-screen DVD and just hit a keyboard key whenever you want a screenshot, then you'd better carry on with your research, because this one ain't it.
This is an excellent frame capture product. A keeper!

It has the ability to slow down frames for an easy capture.
Cons
Doesn't include a one frame ahead or one frame back feature.
Summary
I've used this product for the past four months. Many of the frames I capture were taken from a small boat with plenty of rocking movement. DVD Snap does a very good job in spite of the up and down enviroment.

The concept is great. The GUI is intuitive with the right functions.

On the surface, DVD Snapshot reads like a DVD frame capture "perfect solution". Under the hood is another matter. The program downloads and installs fine, however, upon use, the program locks, freezes, and some functions do not work. This reviewer loaded DVD Snapshot on a high-end workstation with 4gb of RAM. One would think this would be plenty of power to run DVD Snapshot. Such is not the case. The program need more work by the author to clean up the bugs and issues. I find DVD Snapshot is not ready for "prime-time", and not worth the effort to load and try. Keep looking and you will find one or two other products that have the same or more functionality than DVD Snapshot, and the other programs actually work as advertised.
