  I'm a professional computer technician and I absolutely love this program. It does extremely well in detecting problems with hard drives. It has the option, for Western Digital drives, to fix sectors and/or the entire drive, but its effectiveness is limited (on computers I've worked on, it's had about a 50% success rate, but that's better than 0%!) As for its effectiveness in DETECTING problems, it is amazing. Unfortunately, I've found in some situations it does not detect a bad hard drive the first time. In some cases where a 0x72 (SMART reported a problem) error is present, it is not detected the first time. However, it almost always gets it right by the second try. If it passes twice, I consider it good and move on to other things. It may also help to leave your computer on for about an hour before running the test, since SMART also checks temperatures. One other amazing thing is that it can support SCSI drives. Most bootable testers I used before DFT did not have that option. The only trouble is that you need to know the model of the SCSI controller, but other than that it is very easy to use with a SCSI drive. As for RAID drives, I still haven't gotten around to testing it, but I assume that DFT will respond to it as a SCSI controller (as Windows setup does). All-in-all, this program is amazing. It's the first test we run on any computer we take in. Occassionally it misses something, but about 99% of the time it's right, and a very easy program to use. Even allowing for mouse support, beginners will love how easy it is to use, and professionals will love its ability to describe the exact problem with the drive (with its extensive number of error codes).

• Resurrects dead hard disk

  No pun! I had 1 customer which his TravelStar gave loud knocking noises and couldn't boot up. After using this software to low-level format, it works beautifully! Would try to use this software again on another dead TravelStar (which still has the motor sound spinning away)

  Not the design like Maxtor´s POWERMAXX - but it works for diags. If you need a low level formattig feature, you better use powermaxx or other.

• Doesn't execute on Windows XP

  Could not load this program on an XP machine as I continuously got a "floppy not present" message ...when a floppy was present... back to the drawign board.
