Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) is a download manager that increases download speeds by up to 300 percent. DAP searches for mirror sites that will most effectively serve your downloads, and features multi-server connections to for optimal utilization of dial-up or broadband connections. DAP also automatically recovers from shutdowns, lost connections, and other errors. DAP is fully integrated into Netscape, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari and Mozilla. DAP features auto hang-up after download, proxy settings and scheduling.

You can download it however when trying to install, it does not install. Please see below, I have copied some of the first lines for you and does not look good on a Mac! This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This app is a non-sense Mac Application : it modify a lot of files without letting you know which ones and is very dangerous to uninstall. It needs an uninstallator ! That is actually suspect. If the unistall processus isn't OK it will cause heavy troubleshoutings whith your Internet apps. (See previous message about that). That stuff seem to be designed only to seduce recent switchers that used to have it on their PC. Just do not try it !

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />This was my favourite download manager on my old Peecee. Very nice to see it again on my first mac. The speed is amazing. The UI is easy to intepret not like stupid Speeddownload. Most importantly, resume does work. However, Whenever Dap is running, I can not open files with .rtf or .txt extension. When I double click on .rtf or .txt files, dap window is put up front but text editor wont open. I have to right click and choose "open with text editor" for the file to open. Can you give me a solution to that. If that is fixed, I will definitely buy this appl.

Alltough the UI is not exectly Mac like I happaned to use the software a lot and recommend it very much. It is a good utility for downloading big files, it is not really usefull for little ones. It catch most of Safari links, it sometimes miss some dmg files. Missing functionality: disable - to disable when downloading little files stabillity - Did not crash so I guess it is preaty stable

If you're going to try this, FIRST make a backup of your com.apple.internetconfig.plist in your preferences folder, because if you decide to back out of this app, you'll need to restore this file to get back to where you started before trying this app. As for the actual trial... too many problems with hanging Internet Explorer, requiring a force quit. DMG files, which were supposed to be handled by this app (and DaPlugin), weren't handled. Finder hangs, requiring a relaunch. No documentation as to what got installed and where... so "fixing" things to get back to where I started was a totally manual easter egg hunt, and manual restore of the com.apple.internetconfig.plist from my backups. Sigh. A few mis-spellings in the app also.

I had to delete everything manually. After this I logged out, and started up my Camino browser, it would not let me download and shutdown a few seconds after I tried. I also tried this with Firefox and had the same result. Then I downloaded with both Safari and Omniweb and had no trouble what so ever (very odd). I advise no one to download this software at this time until you have away to uninstall it safely. I trashed all my preferences and internet plugins and anything else I thought could have been affected, this did not work at all. I am mystified.
