In our tests, the program worked quickly and produced good-quality PDFs that matched our original documents. DocuCom PDF Driver offers multiple options for customizing PDF documents, from managing fonts, compressing images, setting security, and adding meta tags. It also lets you overlay watermarks. Beyond regular PDF creation, it includes the PDF Direct utility, which batch-converts documents. As a result DocuCom PDF Driver seems like a good bet for creating PDF files.

It is now packed with burdensome registration process and actually limits the number of uses per hour to puny rates

There are plenty of alternatives much more reasonably priced without limits and hassle-free registration. This product used to be like that, back when it was packaged with other software, now be sure to check out the prices and hourly limits before you consider it, you may be surprised.

You can only set resolution to 100, 150, 200 and 300. I need 110dpi :-( <p>I can produce smaller files with Adobe Distiller.

Pros
Works like the freeware PDF printer driver options with a decided advantage - it permits generation of PDF documents from within Adobe Reader itself. Most freeware options I've used generate blank pages with an error message, unless you "Print as Image" which is undesireable for large documents.
Cons
Fifty bucks is a bit much (forty on sale until 31-10-2005). However, the cost might very well be worth it given the feature set, cleanliness and efficiency of the tool.
