• Decent CRT monitor that can be had very cheaply.

  Summary

  CRT monitors are obsolete, and many people are getting rid of them at the moment. The market is now flooded with old but very serviceable CRT monitors of fairly decent quality, and you can still get some good usage out of them. The best places to find them are at thrift stores - I've had bad luck pricing monitors at the Salvation Army ($20 - $40 range), but at Savers I've gotten working monitors for as little as $4. The Dell E773c I bought at Savers cost me $7, and so far it's worked fine. Very bright color, no flicker, maybe with a bit too strong of a contrast but the setting was maxed out when I got it, and I haven't tried to play with it yet. I think it's fairly light for a CRT, but then I'm used to my old Viewsonic E771 which was several years older and much more bulkier and heavier. You really shouldn't be paying more than $20 for an old, used CRT these days, given how flooded the market is. This isn't an item you should be shopping around for on the internet, except maybe on Craigslist. Instead check for local availability in the thrifts, and don't expect to get a specific model. But these old Dell monitors are fairly common, tend to still work, and can usually be had for under $10 if you shop around and don't buy the first one you see. You might even be abler to get one for free at a local monitor recycling center. It doesn't need any drivers either, so don't bother with the Dell driver download for it.
