  Nothing. Other free clients offer more features and speed. Least reliable FTP client out there.

  Force closes, and completely unusable most of the time. Can't believe an reason to choose this over other free alternatives.

  Pros

  Supports filters, bookmarks inside bookmarks, clone an exisiting site, easy setup of SSL/TLS sites, notes for each site, show htaccess, etc. I run my company with CuteFTP and use it daily for the past decade. Love it.

  Cons

  Once in awhile it times out, or doesn't refresh the upload/download, and wish it could scoop more RAM to manage large website downloads (like 10,000 files) - on a 16GB machine, should be enough RAM to "cache" a bit more of its processes (Win7/64 machine). But, I use it everyday!

  Summary

  Lots of other choices, and have used free stuff like feedzilla when I have to. Always nice to go back to a friendly face with CuteFTP.

• Retort to Steves 'bad' thumb?

  Free to PC users, Steve? You smoking crack? They get the SAME 30 day trial as Mac users do. The only differance? When they are ready to purchase CuteFTP for their PC, THEY pay 39.99, not the 29.99 Mac users pay. Sober up, bud. Its a cool world that way.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I use cuteFTP at work and I hate it. We have Transmit (which I just paid for yesterday), and about a dozen other decent FTP clients. If I wanted crap, I'd just use a PC for everything.

CuteFTP Mac brings the CuteFTP interface to the Mac (GUI with FTP command prompt visible). CuteFTP Mac does the job it promises and has an excellent Help guide. If you're a windows user familiar with CuteFTP, this product is a good starting point. However, this product has a lack of Applescript support, a poor feature set, and an overly complex connect process (you have to create a "new site" for every FTP server you connect to). CuteFTP Mac lacks a lot of polish and user-consideration that other Mac FTP clients have. The program sits on its splash screen until you click it. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to hide files that start with a dot in CuteFTP Mac -- something most modern FTP clients do by default. Most frustrating of all, although CuteFTP shows the FTP command lines, the user can't type one in directly into the command prompt window pane. Instead, a menu command (accesible through a keyboard shortcut) is required. However, the GUI portion of CuteFTP Mac doesn't keep track of what the user does when entering FTP commands. Thus, if you enter "CWD ~/Pictures" into the command prompt, the FTP session moves to the ~/Picutres directory, but the GUI stays put at the last working directory. Problems ensue. <p> If you're looking for a GUI FTP client, my suggestion is to check out Panic's excellent Panic FTP client. (You don't have to submit your e-mail to download <i>that</i> application.) However, I think the CuteFTP Mac concept of showing the actual command prompt during FTP sessions would be a great idea if it meant that I could effectively switch back and forth between writing commands and using the GUI. Applescript support, writing FTP commands direct to command line, and refining on a good idea would make CuteFTP Mac a much better client. However, it's current release is tragically flawed and doesn't offer a good value for the price.
