• Not quite finished

  Pros

  The main advantages over the Windows Explorer in XP is tabbed interface and the search engine with support for filters and results based on content. Unlike some of the heavy weight Explorer alternatives it opens big folders quickly. It opened my system32 folder in less than a second, but continued to make heavy demands on the CPU for several seconds.

  Cons

  Like most of the Explorer alternatives I have tried it provides extra features, but omits important features that users of Windows Explorer take for granted. In the case of Cubic Explorer it is only possible to undo file deletions, but not copy, move or rename operations. This is such a big disadvantage that it has persuaded me not to keep it. The lack of dual pane view is another major shortcoming.

  Summary

  Potentially a great Explorer alternative, but abandoned before it was completed. This might have been due to the more advanced file managers available in Vista and above.

  Tabbed interface, extensive files, folders, view options accessible from the menu bar, extensive possibilities for interface personalization, skin editor, portable, free!

  Cons

  Nothing worth mentioning.

  Summary

  After having tested nearly all available free alternate Windows Explorers, Cubic Explorer stayed definitively on my desktop. After having composed my very own skin I wouldn't miss it there. Even the CubicExplorer SVN (development version) 0.96.0.1528 is working fine replacing the four Explorer windows I used before to manage my multiple storage and backup disks simultaneously.

  Pros

  This program has many options, many language. It's portable and all free. I have used many time and I am happy to have downloaded it.

  When closing out program it stops responding about 1/3 of the time
