Crypto Text for Windows

Rather than encrypting specific files and folders, this free program encrypts messages as you write them. While we weren't blown away by its features or functionality, it worked well for us.

Crypto text has a basic, paneled user interface. You'll find small command buttons across the top of the window. Its not immediately clear what each button does, so you'll need to hover your mouse over each to learn its job. Larger, more straightforward commands button would have been better. Below the command buttons are two panels--one for inputting the text, and another to display the output text. We jumped right in, clicked the new document button, and started typing our message. We then clicked the encrypt button, and entered a password, the encrypted text was displayed in the output window. Using the program, we were able to enter the same password to open and decrypt the file. The clipboard feature let us quickly tap into our clipboard to paste text into the input window.

If you're looking for a quick way to encrypt your message, this is a worthy tool. The simplicity of this program makes it suitable for novice users. Because its an executable file, there's no need to uninstall it.
