This space-age take on the classic Scrabble game provides a daunting challenge to even the biggest verbal whizzes. CrossCraze's gameboard is very similar to that of Scrabble, with the usual assortment of double-letter and triple-word scores. The game takes place over an outer-space background and has robotic, computerized sound effects to match this theme. You can choose to play against up to three humans, or you can take on a computer opponent of varying skill. In our tests, we were never able to succefully vanquish even the easiest AI opponent, meaning most folks won't get bored during the rather stingy one-hour trial. The demo version also disables many of the customization options, but you can still make a few basic tweaks to the board's appearance and the game rules. CrossCraze also lets you participate in online matches, though when we tested this option, we didn't find any available games. All told, fans of word games will definitely find this program tests their mettle.
