  Pros

  I used WordPerfect years ago, but moved to MS Office since it was the dominant program. I thought WordPerfect had disappeared. I currently use MS Office, my own word processor named CesarUSA Text Editor BS2, and a plain text editor that is better than Notepad. I have tried to use OpenOffice, but it can be is very slow in a slow computer and it does not open docx files.

  Cons

  I think that the price is very high for the average individual, not as much for companies. There is the concern about the compatibility issues mentioned by the other people commenting here. As long as there are compatibility issues or documents displaying differently in MS Word then users will not be happy.

  Summary

  The program named CesarUSA Text Editor BS2 provides several features that other word processors do not have. New versions will appear as soon as they are patented.

  Pros

  Cheap. Installs well. Good if you do not need MS Word document conversion.

  Cons

  MS Word documents convert with a complete different format. Docs created in WordPerfect and saved as MS Word will look very different when opened in MS Word.

  Summary

  I am a small business owner and I have a fair number of MS Word docs accumulated until now. i have upgraded my main computer and instead of buying MS Office, i wanted to try (for monetary reasons) WordPerfect. I was a little comforted by the "30 Days Money back guarantee." Big mistake. The program installed with no problem however, it become clear to me that the claim on "compatibility" between MS Word and WordPerfect is not true. Documents created with one will look completely different when opened with the other. For this reason, i have uninstalled the software next day and requested a refund. Totally ignored by Corel. No answer to my request, no contact, and the most frustrating part, completely ignoring the posts on the open ticket. There is no way to contact Corel in US or Canada via phone or email but you can take screen shots from the ticket page showing that you have done your best to contact them. I will cancel the VISA payment and open a BBB complaint.

  X6 Professional doesn't work with Perfect Authority, a rather expensive program purchased just last year to create tables of authority in documents. They don't mention this in their sales material.

  Pros

  WP is still the best word processing program on the market. Great for legal documents.

  Cons

  Constant document corruption. No obvious difference between earlier versions of WP & X6. Horrible customer support. Way too expensive. If someone comes out with a better word processing program, I will be first on line.

  Summary

  I work in a law office. So, I am always working on very large documents. I am also working against the clock because of the court filing deadlines. I have been a WP user since it was a DOS program. I have never been impressed with Word (plus I don't want to contribute to MS's world monopoly). I still maintain that WP is the best word processing program for law offices. My biggest complaint with ALL WP Office products is corrupted documents! I have tried every trick in the book & still, sooner or later, very close to a deadline, my document will become corrupted. I then lose/waste hours & hours trying to fix the document. I was occasionally getting corrupted documents with WPX5. So, when X6 came out, hoping X6 might finally fix the corrupted doc problem, I downloaded the trial version. I don't know why (nor do I care) but almost immediately, my documents became corrupted. It happened over & over again. Combined with the fact that I could see no difference between X5 & X6, I uninstalled X6 & went back to X5. Forget customer support. WP customer support is TERRIBLE. Corrupted documents or not, I'll stick with WP. But, believe me, if someone comes out with a better word processing program, I'd give up WP in a minute.

  Summary

  WordPerfect has all the tools you need and lets you control how everything is laid out. It doesn't "do" things for you that you cannot adjust. Still the best ouline numbering system going.

  Haven't found any yet because the drawbacks of earlier versions have been made easy to use and understand. One click solutions. Except the pdf conversion to edit. I tried downloading another pdf editor but like Corel; it doesn't stay formatted. But maybe it's me not knowing the details.

  Summary

  Oh to have had this version when writing books. Simplicity has returned.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Dec 9, 2011<p/>My email inviting me to review was incorrect. I tried but could not get WPO and ought to because my WP 10 (disc) that came with my old computer won't work in Win 7. I paid for it but they call it a legacy program and "is incompatible." So if I could I'd have no problem downloading a free version. My review was for WP X5 which they were good enough to extend my "Free trial" another 30 days or 60 in total.

  ease of use, reveal codes function to eliminate dangling codes that screw up formatting, speed, compatibility with Wintel platform.

  Cons

  Translation between Wordperfect and Word is still not great. I just dont use Word unless I am forced to.

  Summary

  I have never understood why Word won the war over Wordperfect.

• Corel overlooked a few things

  Pros

  Wordperfect is great for organizing long documents. Can save print commands, workspace with document.

  Cons

  Notes function won't work on 64 bit machines. Code reveal used to be easy; now cluttered. Documents baffling to work in unless you keep tabs etc visible and keep track of cursor. I haven't got to the rest of the suite yet. There are more.

  Summary

  Disappointed. II was a long time user of Wordperfect before my agency changed to MS Office. I was looking forward to using it again. Changed my mind. I use "notes" a lot, and was astounded when it didn't work. Corel tech couldn't tell me why, looked into it, then called me to tell me that it was a "known problem" with Win7 and they were working on a fix. Interesting that they had not even informed their tech people about this "known issue". I posed a second inquiry , using the problem code, a couple of weeks lager about when this fix could be expected, and was answered with a list of possible causes for the problem, and this casual addendum: "Note that Lightning [the notes function] does not work on 64 bit OS machines." Eh? Their box and promo material clearly says that the Office Suite works in 64 bit OS, including Win7. I can't help but wonder what else they overlooked and can't fix. Not impressed with either WP Office (which is not integrated with the email client Thunderbird, either, BTW) nor am I impressed with Core's handling of the issue. Sending it back. I was so hoping for an alternative to MS Office for the kinds of things I do.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Jul 12, 2011<p/>Downgrade to one star. • WordPerfect Office X4 &#38; X5 - BEST word process program

  Pros

  Understand my 5 stars are for WP X4. I urge all who can't stand MS Word to get the OEM version of either X4 or X5, which is very good and not much different than X4. The ease of editing, formatting -- all mechanics -- is a dream.

  Cons

  The only negative with Corel is the limited choice of symbols, which ought to be expanded to twice its size in the database.

  Summary

  If only Corel WordPerfect Office were more affordable. It is the finest word processing program ever, and I wish I could buy the premium program. So for us who are on the lower end of the money spectrum, the OEM version of WP are an excellent way to use the program. Everyone who tries Corel will never use MS Word again.

  Pros

  I came to the conclusion long ago that Wordperfect when, it is mastered, is a far more powerful office suite than MS Word. Discount of $1 shipping on all orders over $79.

  Cons

  Don't get me wrong; this is a good product on its own, just that I find Microsoft Office to be slightly more fully featured and obviously more compatible, since most of the world already uses it.
