Needs other 3rd party software to run?
MeikMeurer- Pros
- It seems to be an interesting piece of software. I would like to actually use it.
- Cons
- CoreDuoTemp needs the 3rd party software SpeedIT to run, but SpeedIT is not available for download (tried for months to find it). So as CoreDuoTemp doesn't work without SpeedIT, there's no point in trying to use this software?
- Summary
- If CoreTempDuo depends on SpeedIT so much, why is it not baked into the installation routine? Obviously the developer of CoreTempDuo must have access to it as else he/she could not have developed CoreTempDuo ...?
seems to cause instability for me

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I tried this on a new 24" iMac and a 15" MBP. I would often get unexpected quits from applications other than CDT for seemingly no reason- sometimes as often as a dozen times a day ;-(. I re-installed the 10.4.8 combo update, repaired permissions, tried another user, et. al. These were relatively clean installs and only CDT and EarthDesk were installed. I disabled CDT on the MBP and Earthdesk on the iMac. Apps on the iMac still crashed. I disabled CDT on both Macs and I'm only getting unexpected quits maybe once a week now. I like the app and will check it out again in the future, but this version doesn't work for me.
Excellent

Not a bad improvement over before

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There's no more admin password, but I'm still wondering why it needs an installer. Also, the English localization is pretty poor, it defaults to checking for updates on startup (I really wish applications asked me first), and it doesn't remember the temperature unit setting in the preferences between launches (I set it to Fahrenheit and it reverts to Celsius when restarting the app, but only in the preferences). But it does seem to work without admin access this time.
Ditto on that it doesn't install SpeedIt

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There's an error when you launch the app that SpeedIt isn't installed (even though it's supposed to do it for you). 2 stars for this version because it doesn't work, 4 stars for the previous version... stick with 0.8 until this bug is fixed. FYI, when I tried to install SpeedIt 0.5, OS X would hang intermittently which led me to uninstall SpeedIt 0.9 right away. I'm on a MacBook 1.83.
It didn't work for me, kept asking for a password

- Summary
- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Didn't accept my password as I kept getting 2 different keychain error messages. I've NEVER had that happen with any app before now. A password required to simply check a termperature? Absolute stupidity with the designing of this app.
Remove password request.

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I don't think many will use it if it requires an administrator password. Can you provide the purpose for needing it? It makes you think it's a backdoor into the system, adding a keychain to allow this keychain access to all things the administrator has access to.
Very Nice!

- This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Corrected wrong version check with 0.61. Would like to see it as a widget. How about as screensaver? How about each processor? For Reference: When running seti@home the CPU is at 100% and temperature is at 60 degrees C with my InteliMac. Idle is CPU 2.0%; Temperature is 34 degrees C.
