Cookie Crusher acts as a real-time cookie manager giving you complete control over cookies and your privacy. Cookie Crusher transparently accepts or rejects cookies from Web sites, as well as classifies incoming cookies and labels their purpose. You can add sites or individual cookies from a Web site to filter lists for automated cookie handling. Cookie Crusher permits wildcard use for added convenience. Cookies received from new Web sites can be accepted or rejected without any interaction based on classification or expiration date; the program can also prompt you for confirmation. Cookie Crusher keeps a detailed list of cookies handled during the current session and allows you to analyze and delete saved cookies. Cookie Crusher is compatible with virtually any Internet browser including Internet Explorer v5.0+, Netscape v4.x+, Mozilla v1.x+ and America Online.

Version 3.2 enables users to modify most cookies and make them session-only, allowing them to access Web sites that require cookies without having them stored on your computer, blocks referrer fields from being passed between Web sites, thus restricting a site from knowing how you arrived.

Privacy invasive cookies really bug me so I set out on a quest to find the best cookie manager. Having tried quite a few (all found here in the download.com archives) I've come to the conclusion that total "perfection" isn't likely to be found. Rather, it's a question of deciding between the lesser of many evils. Virtually every cookie manager I demo'd seemed to be somewhat buggy in one way or another, many falling into the category of "worthless". That said, Cookie Crusher seems be about as good as it gets. The program has been around for quite a while and the developer makes an honest effort to improve the product while adding useful features. Sooooo, here we go... THE GOOD: highly configurable, easy to adjust settings on-the-fly, robust and stable, low CPU (less than 1%), decent GUI, no negative impact on overall system performance, reasonably priced. THE BAD: works through internal proxy which (in my case) slowed down my internet download speed by around 7%, features & settings could be slightly confusing to novice PC users, requires Microsoft's (free) "Net Framework" to operate. CONCLUSION: Some might be turned off by the idea of a proxy based application however in my case it hasn't caused problems or required special settings for other programs on my PC. The proxy can be quickly disabled at the click of button however this will terminate cookie management until reactivated. As for the "Net Framework" requirement, it's a useful application (and you'll probably need it some day for one program or another) but users with storage issues might not want to give up any disc space. So if you can get past the above mentioned issues (and possibly a small decrease in downloading speed), Cookie Crusher is a first-rate cookie manager that does it's job very well.

This program will show a very large stream of cookies, probably many more than you would even want to attempt to sift through. Most are harmless cookies that help provide a seamless web experience as you move through web pages, for instance at on-line stores. You'll see more cookies than you could imagine are being used from page to page, to help in indexing items for web catalog pages. Many of these you wouldn't want to remove. I too found that Internet explorer did not work properly after I uninstalled this program. I found that I couldn't get in to my MSN home page. Cookie Crusher works through a proxy server, and doesn't restore your link to your regular server or reset proper time and other co-ordinates. The proxy server is used to feed in all the cookie data that the .Net framework can provide. Ask yourself whether you want all of your internet surfing to be processed through a proxy server if you try this, and be prepared to tinker with Internet explorer later to get it to run properly if you uninstall Cookie Crusher.

Can't be bothered. Requires .Net framework installed on my PC -- so a 373k download needs a 20MB monster download from Microsoft just to install this little program. What is wrong with a simple self extracting executable?

I was really impressed with this product. The interface was straightforward and it worked with my AOL account (don't ask). I also use Mozilla, and this is one of the few managers I have found that is compatible with everything I use.
