Color Labels was written to re-introduce the ability to colorize icons in the Finder - a feature that is unavailable in Mac OS X even in 10.4 and, even though since Mac OS X 10.3 labels have been re-introduced, it only colorizes the name. Color icons are done by creating a custom icon and applying it to the file or folder. This also works with Mac OS 9.0 or later to give icons a different color from the standard labels.

Does not create label metadata

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'd love to find sommething that implements OS9 labels on OSX, but this is not it. It MIMICS the OS9 version by creating a custom icon. It does not "label" the file. Perhaps it is just me, but a large part of the value of labelling is the ability to search or flag files - for example back up all files except those labelled green. This app only does half the job. I'm sure this is fine for some, I really wish Apple would address the issue - their current implementation is enough to make you vomit.
Colour Labels does otherwise work as advertised, at least for me.

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I admit having another app running is not as nice as having labels as contextual menu like LabelsX, but I don´t have to install the dreaded APE manager that way. And it is cheaper. I bought it immediately.
