• Needs an Update

  Pros

  You get 75 challenges, but 41 of those are basic piece movement. The next 9 cover tactics such as pins, skewers, discovered check, etc. The remainder cover famous games and you have to determine what piece to move. Not bad for a demo. BTW, I did not receive a virus warning as one reviewer posted and it ran fine for me.

  Cons

  If you look at the screenshot you'll see that the interface is woefully out of date. According to the Help pulldown the last update was 2004, though it looks like a Windows 3.1 program to me. The hints are not great.

  Summary

  Not really sure how much this helps in teaching you tactics. Considering that the full version goes for $17 to a whopping $197 you'd think they'd do more to update it. Personally I'd find another tool or read a good book on tactics.

  Pros

  Great learning game. Helped me already and I just got it! Good program for all chess fans.

  Cons

  Needs to be made so you can play a normal game and it instruct you on how your move is instead of just the challenges.(if there is one I haven't found it yet!) But that would mean a huge increase in download size I think. Still... It's worth downloading.

  My favorite part is how it tells me why my choice of move is WRONG, not just what the right move is!

  Cons

  The graphics and stuff are a little dated looking, but who cares - I'm just studying chess.
