  It does work. <p>It looks like an Apple program (which is nice, but not an XP look and feel). <p>SQL (SQL 2005 in this case) gives us the ability to create reports, query the database, and correct problems when they occur.

  Cons

  It's slow. All computers are Intel P4 at 2.4Ghz or faster, at least 512Mbytes RAM (a few have 1Gbyte RAM at 3.2Ghz). Some displays take 10 seconds to appear, and when scanning at the register, a "not found" SKU can take nearly 60 seconds. <p> <p>In our case, we don't use the concept of "sets of products", where one might sell, for example, a living room set comprised of several individual pieces, each of which can be sold seperately. The system supports this, which is good, but we sell clothes, so this gets in the way. It's easy for "non-computer literate" operators to make simple mistakes that create havoc with the system. <p> <p>Receiving stock is painfully slow. <p> <p>Counting Inventory was so slow, we decided to use the Excel Spreadsheet import feature to count inventory. <p> <p>We received data from manufacturers for 60,000 items overall (they provide in Excel spreadsheets). The import feature is limited to 5,000 items at a time. <p> <p>The import started causing problems eventually, which required some "SQL Magic" to correct. It worked for 50,000 items (5,000 at a time), but then mysteriously, with the same input format of "clean" data, the program would crash accessing certain items. Using a SQL administration tool, we studied the database and found it there were missing relationships in the database, and wrote a few scripts to correct it. That fixed the problem.
